Anyone a computer nerd?
I am having trouble picking out a new lap top. I don't really need something super portable. If work decides I need one they can buy me a surface. I already have a kindle fire for quick internet use.
I like the bigger 17 inch screen with a ten key.
I want it to be fast
Needs to be good for data crunching... SQL server and excel for my future data analysis school work.
Any recs on what I should buy before I just go buy another Dell?
We have had crap luck with hp and dells in the last couple years. H has a hp right now, ten key and all, I figured when I got it for him maybe if I spent more money on one we would have better luck. Well he pretty much hates the thing. it runs constantly while on (loud fan, gets hot easily). I had an hp for at least 5 years at one point and it was great but between that one going out and getting my macbook I went through 3- hp and dell laptops. All new but all had different problems that stopped them from being usable in any way.
So basically what I'm saying in short is that the dell and hp laptops are nothing of the quality they were 5-6 years ago.

Still thinking about this. I feel like my 17" personal laptop is too big. I have a 15" work laptop that has a full number pad, and seems to be the perfect size. It's a Dell Latitude with SSD, and I run large datasets on SAS, plus keep SQL server going on it for backup. It's no longer my primary work machine, but i really wish it was. Super fast, nice graphics card, not too heavy.
Thanks guys. niq which one do you like at the Microsoft store? In a 15inch?
I feel like I just need to go down there and have them sell me one .
I think it's the 15" one, yeah. Maybe there is a 17"? Most of the laptops in the store are focused on being small and light, but there are a couple of larger ones.

Follow up on new lap top:
I went to the Microsoft store today on lunch today. It was between a Dell Inspiron and Lenovo for what I need right now. Based on price difference and longevity I went with the Dell. Hopefully I will get my fancy Data Analyst job when I complete school and I can spring for the lenovo or get work to pay for it for me I'm such a dork. I can't wait to doc my fancy lap top and work from dual monitors in my home office. lol.
