My mom's colonoscopy came back clear! No cancer at all! She does have one polyp which they are not concerned about.
The only downside is that she is still not feeling great. They can't find anything wrong with her - colonoscopy was clear, bloodwork is good, but she is still having digestive issues. I hope she starts feeling better soon, but I am SO relieved the test came back clear.
Thanks for the thoughts and prayers from a couple nights ago.
Have they done an endoscopy? I had been having ongoing issues, initially my doctor was thinking gallbladder but the HITA scan came back clear. They sent me to a GI dr who diagnosed me with H Pylori and gastritis via an endoscopy. I'm now on 2 antibiotics and an anti acid med too.
I'm starting to notice a little improvement but have taken about half of my antibiotics

No, they haven't. I can mention it to her. She has always had issues with constipation, etc. For the past 15 or so years, she has drank Metamucil every night which has helped until recently. I never thought of the endoscopy angle of it. Thanks for mentioning it!

Can you tell me more about your symptoms?
DH's little brother has had ongoing stomach issues for at least 7 years now. He's lost a ton of weight and it's just not getting better. They've done an endoscopy (though it's been quite a while) and recently did a colonoscopy. They've found nothing wrong so far. I googled H. Pylori and the advanced symptoms sound pretty similar to what he's experiencing.

I've had ongoing waxing and waining issues with a stabbing type pain just below my ribs on my right front. When they did the endoscopy they did a biopsy of my stomach which came back fine. They also took a sample to test for h pylori which is how I got diagnosed. I think they can check by a blood test too. I go back to the GI dr later this month for a checkup. He said he still wonders about my gallbladder. I am noticing increase in my symptoms also with feeling indigestion in that area after eating fattier foods. He said if that doesn't go away by my next followup he wants te gallbladder looked into again. Dr said you can hav a gallbladder that's not functioning properly and a normal hita scan. I also had an increase in symptoms when I had the hita scan too
Has your brother in law thought about seeing another GI doctor?
That is great! Has she had an ultrasound done yet? I hope it's nothing, but my mom was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2013 after feeling "not quite right" and "backed up" for a month or so. She pushed for an answer and they found a mass that turned out to be a tumor. She's clear now, but it's a terrifying disease because the symptoms manifest so vaguely. Obviously I hope it's just some GI issues that resolve on their own, but I get a little nervous now when I hear about women with unexplainable constipation.
As for the couple questions above: I do not know if they did an ultrasound; I'll have to ask. I *think* she had her yearly gyn appointment fairly recently - would that have been caught there?
I don't know if they did bloodwork for celiac; I didn't even realize that was separate bloodwork! I can mention that too.

I'm glad the colonoscopy was good, but I'm sorry she's still not feeling well. Does she take a probiotic? I hate to proselytize, but that's made a world of difference to me.

I don't think she does; I can definitely recommend that to her!

Glad she got great news. Hope she finds out what's causing the issues though.
I've had issues with being severely backed up, and many times it comes from not eating well and a lot of fatty foods. I try not to, but when life gets busy, as of had been the last couple of months, quality food choices go down.
The last time my doc had me take magnesium citrate and follow up with miralax. That helped some.

He saw a GI doc when he was in high school and early college. After he graduated, he stopped going because he was mostly doing it at the insistence of his mom. He then moved to where we live and started exploring it again. I am pretty sure they haven't tested for h pylori, but I do think they ruled out gallbladder issues. They also have ruled out celiac because he doesn't have any blood markers for it. I think his symptoms are mainly that eating makes him feel nauseous and he has a lot of upper GI issues.
I don't feel like any of the docs he's seen have been proactive in trying to figure out what the hell is going on. I also don't think they're concerned enough. He is 10" taller than me, but weighs about the same. His BMI could be borderline, but he looks underweight to me.
