My understanding is that if she brings the coffee then she'll have to pick it up at 4 am, I'm hoping the meeting isn't that early. I vote box of joes from DD.
Yeah, I didn't think the meeting was at 4 am, just that she had to get the coffee at 4am. But given that, it seems like this meeting is hella early and one that needs coffee to be "fun".
To be fair, she said she'd have to pick up the coffee at 4:00 am, not that the meeting started then. The meeting may not start until 4:30 or so.
This does sound like the stuff of nightmares, though, coffee or no coffee. I don't drink coffee ever but even I know it is mandatory at any meeting at any time, but particularly before, say, 11 am.

LOl. Well, then that's ok then. No coffee needed! LOLOLOLOLOLOL.
You've gotten lots of consistent feedback. My question is- why in the world is this meeting so early?!?!
She said everyone is getting back in their cars and going to different locations so off the top of my head I can see it being related to event planning, political campaigning, media outreach, etc. I've been to shit like this before. You get people together, get them worked up for the "cause" and then send them off. I'd stop at a gas station beforehand. Shit even some McDonalds are open 24 hours by me.
At my old company, we had to go through the contracted catering company too. I don't think I would have been reimbursed for buying something outside of that, because I would have been breaking a policy in order to bring in outside food. We were allowed to buy stuff for our coworkers for our own enjoyment, but we couldn't have expected to be reimbursed for it. However, the contracted catering company would absolutely have provided the means to serve food/coffee at any meeting.
OP, I think you should bring in coffee. But if you don't want to pay for it out of pocket, I don't really blame you and I might feel weird if I knew my coworker was buying us all coffee out of her own pocket as well. Another option would be to email everyone and let them know that a light breakfast is provided but that the catering company doesn't do coffee that early and suggest people bring their own. I wouldn't care, at all, if I knew ahead of time and needed to bring it from home.
Depending on the size of the meeting I also like the idea of bringing in a coffee maker and making it there. If there are more than 5-10 people there I don't think that's as reasonable since you'll have to make several pots, though.

Lol, there is very little chance that you can get me worked up for you cause before 5 AM with coffee and without it you might as well not even bother.

There may be a team t-shirt though, or water bottles, we don't know!

yes, I don't want to give away my job here LOL however you are right on! I suspect many people will come with coffee in hand. And for those who asked, the meeting is at 6:30 AM but I'm the only one who is willing to wake up early enough and pay out of pocket for the coffee so I would need to get it before my pre-pre-meeting at 5:30 AM. I also have to set up.
LOL at these replies. Some of you are nuttier than I LOL. I am surprised nobody understands why I can't be reimbursed. I've had a few jobs where policy is in place that monies cannot be spent on certain places/circumstances and this is one of them. We have a budget that is used for our contracted caterer only. Anything outside of that must be paid out of pocket. This is being put on with fundraising monies and there's stipulations. It's definitely not my decision and I'm not wasting time trying to attempt to change their before hours coffee buying policies LOL.
Just say no to the pre-pre meeting at 5:30 and pick the coffee up one of those Starbucks carriers up on the way. I promise you nobody wants to have a pre-pre-meeting, ever.

Yes, but if you're having breakfast catered, why can't they provide coffee?

How often do you have morning meetings? Any catering company worth their salt should be able to provide coffee at 6:30 a.m. You should really look into a new vendor when their contract is up.
Danish and muffins are not a fucking breakfast. Those are snacks. Those are breakfast desserts.
A real breakfast has MOTHERFUCKING EGGS and MOTHERFUCKING COFFEE. If you expect me to be anywhere at 6:30 am, you better be providing both of those.
I'm going to give bluesky this one. They called it a "light" breakfast, so continental would be ok in my book with that description.
Light breakfast is not acceptable at 6:30am. There should be a goddamned omelet station for a 6:30am meeting. How the fuck does anything get done if you haven't fueled up on eggs and coffee?
