Some of my thoughts may sound like the sky is falling but I feel that Obama is a better leader and will get my vote. The things he achieved with the congress he has, great steps.
but yeah, I would love more than a two party system. for sure.
side note: My story on how I discovered Paul Ryan was picked as the VP. I checked my phone when I woke up that morning...there was a fb thread from one of M's teachers.... "Saying goodbye to my husband for the next 4 months as he will be protecting the future VP of the US, Paul Ryan while he's out campaigning." I literally yelled WHAT?
Yeah. I mean, that veto, it means nothing. And being commander in chief of our military? Essentially worthless. Plus, who even cares about the ability to appoint two justices?
Well, as you pointed out, we do have universal health care and recognized gay marriage in this country.
Right?
Romney will undo all the good Obama has done within months of taking office. Months. I do not at all understand this "they are all the same, it doesn't even matter, I *guess* I will vote for Obama because I'm half assed intelligent and can't actually support someone who would prefer I stay at home breeding, but really, it just doesn't matter, I may as well write in Nader." WTF more does anyone want from Obama? What could he have done better given the hand he was dealt? In 12 years people will call him the greatest president we have ever had. Bet on it.

As one of my friends put it: "Choosing between Obama and Romney is like choosing between a slap in the face or a kick in the groin."
Anyone who believes that is a fool. Obama saved us from a depression that Cheney drive us into by looting our country. He has revived the auto industry, recognized gay marriage, killed Osama Bin Laden (whom Bush was never going to touch because: (a) he needed a boogy man; and (b) money), and passed universal health care. You really think he is no different than Romney and Ryan? What possible basis could you have for saying that.

Is Kuus libertarian? If not, my apologies Kuus. I know we had one on the boards and thought it was her.
LOL @ political boner being gone. Me too. 1 vote for Obama followed by I'm too fucking tired to even talk about this stuff. I seriously blame Facebook for burning me out. Every day someone posts how Romney is our only hope, like they're Princess Leia talking to Ben Kenobi.
Elle is echoing the kind of conversations we have here about the U.S election and it just seems intellectually absurd to me that more people don't see what she's laying out here.
The Canadian gov't is fucked too and the Conservatives are going to cream in their pants if Romney gets elected. The future that I want for my country hinges greatly on this election. The last time our PM was in bed with a Republican president, some scary shit went down.
For our last election, I was living in the UK. The ONLY candidate they discussed was Obama. I didn't get it then; I get it now.
I was an intern in the State House when Romney was Governor. He's a genuinely nice guy and I don't think he's out to screw anyone. I just don't agree with his politic. And I don't know WTF he was thinking with his VP pick. That dude scares me more than Cheney did. And I get annoyed with the people who say Obama hasn't done much. No president is a magician. Government moves slower than molasses on an August day in Miami.
The head of my agency is republican- the second in charge is a democrat. They've both been in and out of politics for years. I have heard them both say, at separate meetings, that politics in DC are as bipartisan as they have ever seen, and both have said how it's almost impossible to get anything done. It's so disheartening.
I really want to vote third party, but I don't feel like I can waste my vote. I'll be voting democrat for the first time.

Wouldn't that molasses move pretty fast?
Oh shit you're right! Ok, slower than molasses moving uphill in Alaska in the middle of January! I'm blonde, can you tell?
And libertarians =/= fiscally conservative, socially moderate/liberal.
They are for states rights. And that could be conservative or liberal depending on what state you live in.
I took the isidewith quiz too and it said I should vote for Gary Johnson. But the stuff I don't agree with him on is more important to me than the stuff I agree with him on.
Vote 3rd party if you want to, but know what you are really voting for.
I'm well aware of what libertarians believe, and have voted that way for about 10 years. The generalization of fiscally conservative, socially liberal is, imo, in regards to their support of a free market economy with substantially less federal regulation, and their desire to protect civil liberties across all issues.
I won't try to outline all the issues, but a good overview of their position is provided here: www.lp.org/issues. I don't agree with them on every single proposal, but I do on enough of them for me to feel comfortable voting for them, especially when I see the direction the other two parties are taking.
