I'm pissed that the house was left to get in such bad disrepair. I had taken my gpa at his word that he had been taking care of things. Clearly he had not. I'm also pissed at myself that I hadn't really started looking at the state of his house until now.
I'd always known my grandparents were hoarders. However it became the norm so I didn't realize just how bad it was, especially in the basement, until we've had 2 (yes 2) estate sale people refuse to take the job. I think we're at the point where we're just going to trash or donate everything. My family is going to be pissed, but there is NOTHING of value in that house. Nothing.
Related - any ideas on what to do with an upright piano?

How old? And in what state of repair?
You could see if a local school could use it. Otherwise, Craigslist. Just don't sell it to someone who will make a kitchen island out of it.
We made roughly $140 at our rummage sale. I got rid of all the big things! I have a trunkload of stuff that I'm taking to Goodwill on lunch.

Ugh, that all sounds really stressful! No advice on anything, just hair pats!

Ditto 2cd on the piano - try any local schools, maybe google music teachers and see if they know anybody who needs one? Assuming it's operational. Otherwise just CL it and hope for the best. If it becomes a kitchen island...well, so be it.
I'm really sorry the house has turned out to be such a struggle. But seriously - screw your family. You could just put a general "if there are things in this house you want, come over on this day between these hours with a truck and get them. Then they'll be gone." email out? Then bring in the junk people.
My IL's had to do something similar when they moved my GMIL out of her house and it still turned into this absurd drama-fest with some of MIL's younger siblings deciding to be fucking weird about it and claiming shit like the backyard clothes line pulley attached to the house and throwing a giant shitfit when somebody pointed out that something BOLTED TO THE HOUSE might be expected to still be there when the new owners did their final walk through in a week. and also, WHY THE HELL DO YOU WANT THAT???
We have an audit supposedly starting today, but we're in a fight over how much we're giving them, and they never confirmed, asked the address etc. I'm mostly prepared, but if I show up and someone asks for a thumb drive I'm going to be SOL.
I'll give it to the first person to come get it out of the house. Even if they want to chop it up for firewood.
Both of those issues should be fixable. I'd Craigslist it.
I'll ignore the latter part. *cringe* I mean, I get it. It just breaks my heart a little.
Lucky turns TEN tomorrow. TEN! I posted a poopton of photos on Facebook last night.
I so feel you. When I was a kid my mom bought a baby grand from the lady down the street who was trying to get rid of it. I looooooved that thing. I was a totally indifferent music student, but I loved to sit down and just plink out the melody line from random sheet music we had sitting around. And I find playing scales to be kinda soothing and medidative, so I'd do that till mom made me stop. I used to be able to do all the major scales both hands, two octaves. And every year my sister and I would play through the entire book of Christmas carols we had. I still have the entirety of carol of the bells memorized. (I think. Probably. Haven't tried in a while)
When mom downsized to a house that REALLY couldn't have fit that piano she hired movers and shipped it to my brother. Eventually my brother needed the space...so he moved it to the GARAGE. where it's been ever since. Slowly decaying and going more and more out of tune.
A mutual friend who is a real honest to god musician just posted on FB asking if anybody had a piano they weren't using and would like to unload for free or cheap. I tagged my brother so fast his head spun. The idea that it's going to her rather than just sitting there dying makes me so happy. I just hope it's not too far gone.

I'm making all the bad decisions today. This morning i forgot to eat breakfast and ate a granola bar at my desk. Then was still starving so i bought myself a fancy non-coffee. Then later i decided to skip the lunch I brought and go out for burgers. So much grease. So much yum.
I fell asleep in class today. Oops. I hate having meds to control the side effects of other meds. But controlled depression is worth it all. My instructor is so nice and understanding; she told me to go home. Yay, excuse to watch trash tv and get alone time
I am doing a video webinar thing today for a bunch of people and I'm so nervous. I didn't realize my apprehension about public speaking extended to webcam too. And instead of seeing the faces of the crowd, I will see the number and be talking to myself on the screen. How many glasses of wine will I need to drink prior to handle this? lol
There's vaccine idiocy on my FB feed. Some mom posted an article about the evils of Gardisil with her commentary about how her daughters will never get it and the way they're raising them they won't need it anyway.

*scrubs face*
Sure, you can totally and completely control your child's sexuality under any and all circumstances. Look how well that worked out for Jim Bob and Michelle.
We were planning to go to Cocoa Beach during our vacation in 2 wks, with my friend. Friend is now freaking out about the shark bite this weekend. I know the stats for bites are insanely low, and can't decide if I'm just too breezy by telling friend to chill or if we should actually reconsider.
Also got documents prepped for audit team. I apologize to all the trees I decimated today :/
