When you have plantar fasciitis, finding "cute" and supportive sandals is like winning the shoe lottery. I would buy those Alyssas in a heart beat! (I hope we can still be friends, haha!)

Lol! Well, if I discriminated on the basis of shoe tastes, I would have left this place long ago .

I literally LOL'ed. Truer words were never spoken.
I prefer the regular Birks, actually. They are so fug they are almost not, and they have the classic angle going for them. The "daintier" versions just look grandma to me. I would do Yaras if you need an ankle strap and want Birkenstocks.
Exactly. You want to wear Birks? Just wear Birks. Regular, classic Birks. Why do we need to try to make them anything more than what they are: Jesus shoes for the 21st century.
I wish those Alyssa's didn't have the strap going all around the ankle (that can make legs look shorter) but otherwise they look nice!
I don't get what you mean about going all around the ankle. Isn't that what ankle straps do?
I'm probably describing poorly. A regular ankle strap can cut the leg off at the ankle visually, making it look shorter.
Some sandals have straps that go around the back of the heel, rather than all around the ankle. Or if the strap does kind of go around the whole ankle, the front is low enough that it doesn't do the cutting off thing. Not at all suggesting that these shoes are for you, but here's an example of a shoe that has a strap, but that is low cut in the front so you wouldn't have the same cutting off effect:
In theory, it is more flattering to wear sandals where the front part of the strap goes across the foot rather than the ankle. You'd obviously need something way more supportive than what's pictured, but perhaps it is the heel strap and not a full ankle strap that you need for stability?
Going for straps that are light/close to your skin tone can also help.

Oh, I get that, v. Unfortunately, in the world of highly supportive shoes, I think that type of ankle strap is hard to find.
I have the Birkenstock Bali, and the strap goes all the way around. It probably would look better if it were designed as you describe, but ah well, such is life. I don't think they're too bad. Plus, I'm short and fat, so I don't think it's the ankle strap making my legs look short.
FUN FACT. costco.com is now selling Birkenstock knockoffs for $20. But they are made in China, not Germany, so I am suspicious of the quality.
I think my old lady feet will stick with fugly German shoes.
But if you just want to be trendy, they some similar to the Arizona and the Gizeh.
I noticed similar shoes at DSW, too. I can't remember the brand though. I don't ever remember seeing Birk knockoffs, so fugly or not, it's what the masses want.
I've been wearing the Gizeh style for years. I'm pretty iffy on all the other styles. Also, I'm not sure when they started selling platform Birkenstocks. That needs to not happen anymore.

That I can agree with you on!
I mean, the point is comfort and easy to walk in. Doesn't adding a platform make them harder to walk in? And it's not like it makes them fashionable.
Since my feet suck so much, I am going to ride this Birkenstock trend wave as long as I can! BIRKS 4EVAH!
I actually like the wedge ones. I think they would be cute with a max dress.
Well, since my office is a friggin' icebox, I am contemplating buying a third maxi skirt! Maxi skirt + cardigan seems to eliminate the need to use my wool blanket.

I've been wearing them since the 70's so I think you're good for a while .
I have a knockoff version of the gizehs in a toned down gold. they have awesome arch support and are comfortable enough to walk miles and miles in. they were $20 at TJ maxx.
