I like to buy a new lipstick when I'm feeling like makeup shopping. Or what about some of the Hourglass products, either an ambient lighting powder or blush?
If you're an eyeshadow person, I got a sample of Coastal ScentsĀ® Revealed 3 Palette in my last birchbox, and the shades are really great and the staying power was great, too.

Would the UD sheer lipstick be good for someone like me who never really wears lipstick?
I feel weird/self-conscious wearing colored lip gloss, but I really do want to start presenting a professional image. And that needs to include makeup.
What color lipstick works with red hair, brown eyes, and pale/reddish skin?

I wouldn't start with the UD sheet lipsticks if you feel uncomfortable in colored lip gloss.
What are your undertones? Easiest way to tell: look on the inside of your wrist and forearm and tell me what color your veins are.

Blue and purple ...which seems like it goes against the warmth of my hair...I've always been very confused when it comes to makeup.

You can have red hair and still be cool-toned. People expect me to be cool-toned (blonde hair, light eyes -- especially when they think they're blue instead of green) but I'm not. Sometimes most of what that means is that you'll just have to see how your undertones affect the colors of your makeup. Like on me, some pinks turn completely brown.
tiramisu - I've always been told to use green tones to even out reddish coloring, but every green-tinged foundation I've tried makes me look sick. The green never blends, and I walk around feeling like this!
(except my neck, shoulders, arms, everything else are all super pale/freckled).
Thinking about lipstick, I think I'm going for subtle, but powerful. I want to look like I could be a manager, even if I don't have that experience yet. The Burt's Bees shimmers that Muddled suggested look really good to me! But I still don't know which color to get.
SwimDeep if you're trying to disguise redness go for a more neutral foundation. I also have some redness and don't use any of those green primers because they don't show up or make that much of a difference on me. Just find a foundation that's a good match.
You might also want to check out NYX butter glosses also. You can probably get away with something cool or neutral without it looking too pink. Hard to make a specific recommendation though.
SwimDeep I too suffer from the reddish look. The best thing I have found is a NYX green primer. It does not go on green but the stuff looks green in the tube. It is great and not that expensive.

I would start with more neutral tones. I was lip color adverse for years and years and really only started wearing color on my lips. I used to swear by the Raisin (or fig?) Burt's stick. I felt like I was wearing chapstick, but there is plenty of color in it.
If anyone has wanted to try the UD palettes but didn't want to fork out the $50 for them, Groupon is selling knock off versions of all 3 pallets at $12.99 a piece.
My sister has purchased 2 of the 3 (she already owned UD #1) and she said they are identical in colors and quality to Urban Decay.
