I watched an interview of a pastor of a neighboring church, who was friends with Pinckney. He kind of went off about lack of gun control in this country, & when you let crazy people purchase whatever kind of weapon they want- here ya go... Certainly not the direct focus, but it is SO exasperating, & I truly believe more & more people are realizing that. But of course, there's a big cry after a senseless tragedy & then it slowly fades into the background
If a kid can go into an elementary school and kill bunch of first graders and there is no change to gun control laws in this country, I can almost guarantee that this tragedy won't be a catalyst.

I honestly don't know what it's going to take.
I just can't form a coherent response to this violence. My heart breaks for the victims and survivors. And I agree with you both, that there's a huge cry out after something like this, and then it just goes back to business as usual, because the effing NRA and gun lobby have somehow convinced people that mass shootings and such are just rare anomalies that keep happening over and over, and like "bummer man, guess we need more guns for everyone. If more people were armed, this wouldn't happen." Fuck them.
This is horrible. I have no words for how hopeless this makes me feel, which cannot even approach the level of hopelessness others feel.
And I'm with you @koko. Being a violent racist doesn't mean you're de facto mentally ill. They haven't even found this person yet, so it's entirely too soon to be drawing such evidence-free conclusions.
I cannot fathom the evil in this man. This is absolutely terrorism. Terrorizing our country, terrorizing our black citizens, terrorizing our church-goers.
My heart hurts for the Charleston community, and the families of the victims. I cannot imagine.

This happens all the time. White dude kills a bunch of people and there are tons of headlines about his achievements and his mental status affecting his actions. Black dude gets killed and the media and commenters are all over his history with experimenting with marijuana or how he got into trouble at school. It's fucking gross.

They're not releasing the vehicle information and there is a very "distinctive tag." Any ideas on why they'd withhold this information?
This is all I've seen about the vehicle:
The only thing I could think is that the tag is maybe tied to an organization and they don't want to release that until they investigate it?
My current guess is that the "distinctive tag" they're talking about is the front tag and the back tag with the actual plate number wasn't caught on film.
Yeah I'm just waiting for people to try to reason this away.
And the fact that he'll be caught alive and have a trial, in the midst of all the media-exposed police brutality against POC for minor to NO crimes? Is pretty damn disgusting. NOT that I'm advocating for anyone to be shot for any reason but the difference in how they're treated is so stark and nauseating.

I can hardly wait to see the breathless media coverage on this one. They'll mine the depths of his past for old teachers, acquaintances, friends, cute kindergarten and family vacation photos, etc. so they can wring their hands and fret about where it all.went.wrong. Then we'll get a series of "think of the children!" mommy blog posts about how to keep more sweet white children from a similar fate. Meanwhile, a few more black people will be killed in the usual course of things, the victims will have been criminals from birth, and reporters will take a statement or two from a couple of bystanders. Then they'll take on the thankless task of dismantling the credibility of each one, piece by piece. "At 11, we'll hear from the recent parolee who claims to have seen the whole thing!!!"
And that reaction, right there, the "crazy lone wolf pyscho" vs "well yeah he shot a cop car, blacks hate cops"?? Stellas?? THAT IS WHY YOUR BULLSHIT ABOUT BEING "TRANSRACIAL" IS FUCKING OFFENSIVE. Because the way society percieves you and your race and applies their ingrained prejudices towards you in teeny or not so teeny ways everyday since you were born forms your experiences as a person of color. It's a shared experience based off something deeper than a fondness for hip hop, soul food and Toni fucking Morrison.
Oh, she knows. She just enjoys being offensive. Or if she doesn't enjoy it, at least feels she's well within her rights to offend whomever she pleases. Which is fine and cute in the anonymous comment section of an internet article. It's freaking bizarre on a board like this, where you can coyly hint at being a bigot then turn around and ask for advice on area rugs and prairie dresses. At this point I'm more interested than offended, but fuck if I sit and explain basic concepts (that she's already aware of) like this is some kind of Sesame Street story hour. We have colorful Muppets and fun songs that do a better job of this than my salty self can. My specialty is namecalling and making folks uncomfortable.

ftfy
True. But I'll own that I also said I wanted her to come back if she felt like it. Not because I love her so much, but because I love conflict and watching fools be fools. My motives were purely selfish. Lol.

look, you can't make this stuff up! I call this Grade A Prime Entertainment. I don't care if I'm the only one either.

I liked her for years both here and on thenest, but the latest comment was it for me. She is on my list and isn't coming off.

This is awful. This week we had a teen killed in our mall because some tough guy, pro guns asshole didn't like that she wouldn't respond to his sexual advances. She reported him, he was fired from his mall security job, lol for days, so he just fucking kills her as she stood in line at chikfila. His FB page was full of guns and bible shit.
I have had it. Haaad it with these little man syndrome assholes.
He got a fucking gun for his 21st birthday. Sickening.
I'm going to go out on a limb, and predict that his family/friends will be completely shocked by his actions, as he and his family were always "such responsible gun owners."
