I'm going to be there for two weeks in July.
I'm already planning on City Museum and Forest Park (possibly some live theater in the park) and probably a Budweiser tour (may have to buy a new Brewers t-shirt for that! ). Alas, I can't boo the Cards while I'm there because of away games + All-Star Break.
But I could use restaurant and bar recommendations. I'm specifically looking for stuff within a 15-minute walk of a train station since I will probably not have a car.
And please do not tell me to eat St. Louis style pizza, so don't even try that.
I was only there for one night a couple years ago. But I still dream about the pulled pork at Pappy's Smokehouse.
And it was so popular that, by the time we got there, ALL they had left was pulled pork. And I think we got the very last bit of it. Otherwise I would have ordered allthethings to try.

Here's my running list of STL food recs... some may be farther than 15 minutes from where you're staying:
Dressel's Public House in the Central West End Bailey's Range Rooster Dewey's Pizza Eleven Eleven Mississippi Fountain on Locust Schafly Tap Room Ted Drewes Pappy's Smokehouse The Royale Boathouse in Forest Park Sasha's on DuMonde Mike Shannon's downtown Charlie Gitto's or Zia's on The Hill Mission Taco Joint McGurks in Soulard
For stuff to do I'd definitely go to the zoo and museums in Forest Park because they are free, the MUNY for a show (if that's what you're referring to) and the Moolah movie theatre is fun. I also love the Saturday morning farmer's market in Soulard (get a Bloody Mary and warm ham & cheese croissant for breakfast!) and see what's playing at the Fox.

More than 15 minutes from where I'm staying is fine. It's more than 15 minutes from a Metrolink that will be trickier, unless I befriend someone with a car.
Ted Drewes for sure Toasted Raviolis on the Hill Did you ever get to eat Pi in DC? IF not, Pi (GOOD St. Louis pizza, as it is actually from San Francisco)
I don't suppose watching the Brewers lose to us is a possibility?
This isn't actually the name of the restaurant, is it? Where exactly am I supposed to go? And what exactly is "The Hill"?
Keep in mind that I have been to St. Louis once, for less than 24 hours. I ate at Blueberry Hill, saw a show at The Pageant, and got so drunk I nearly gave myself a black eye with a car door.

So the Hill is a neighborhood filled with Italian spots--beaglemama gave a few specific recommendations (I don't know names--DH just leads me in there). Toasted Raviolis are what you order--Picture a meat ravioli, breaded in bread crumbs, deep fried, and then served with Marinara sauce for dipping. Like a cheese stick kind of, but ravioli in the center. They are awesome.
Do not eat any pizza other than Pi. Only Pi is safe.
But when you get the ravs, you can probably get a salad with some Provel (tm) on it and experience St. Louis's favorite not-legally-cheese product without having to suffer the pizza.

Oh, I know what toasted ravioli are. I just wasn't sure if there was a specific place you were referring to. Where is the Hill? Remember, I will be alone with nothing but a Metro pass and a smart phone. No locals leading me around!
And I will be skipping the Provel in any and all forms. Sorry, STL, but I don't fuck around with that.

Kings Candy in north St. Louis. When I lived there it was in an area I wouldn't mess around with without a car. IDK if that's the case now. Perhaps someone local can chime in. I really liked Fitz's too. DH and I were talking about that place the other day. It's right near Blueberry Hill in an area that I can't remember the name of. Hell, it may not even be there anymore!
The art museum in Forest Park is also really nice, and free! DH LOVES Lion's Choice...it's the first place we go when we go to visit his family.
eta: Delmar! Fitz's is still there. The area is Delmar! fitzsrootbeer.com/
eeta: Llewellyn's is a great bar/bar food. Get the deep fried potato chips. I've been to the one in the Central West End many, many times. Looks like there are a few of them now. llywelynspub.com/central-west-end

It's Crown Candy Kitchen, good rec! It's a good time warp experience and definitely a daytime only stop without a car. Probably could Uber up there before or after City Museum.
You do get to see the ponies!!!!!! For extra, you can do a special tour. Please do it, I have never been but want to go so bad.
DAY FRESH TOUR
The Day Fresh Tour is an eye-opening look at the journey of a beer from “Seed to Sip.” Guests will start the tour with a visit to the Budweiser Clydesdale Paddock and Stables, and then visit the Beechwood Aging Cellar, historic Brewhouse, BEVO Packaging Facility and more.
This experience lasts approximately 75 minutes. Tickets are $10 for guests 21+, $4 for guests aged 3-20, and children 2 years old and younger are free.
I like Rooster Bailey's Range Pastaria Niche (pricey) Ted Drewes ( more for the experience)
The loop is worth (re)visiting too. Besides Pi, There is Salt and Smoke and mission taco.
ETA for drinks I like the Royale and water street cafe in maplewood. I am unsure about their metro link accessibility though. For beer the tap room or ITap should be good.

Crown candy is the place you mean and while amazing, i still wouldnt go to that area without a car. Its probably worse now.

Just dropping this quote from the Wikipedia on provel here:
According to St. Louis Post-Dispatch food critic Joe Bonwich, Provel was invented specifically for St. Louis-style pizza more than a half-century ago by the downtown firm Costa Grocery (now Roma Grocery on the Hill, a primarily Italian St. Louis neighborhood), in collaboration with the Hoffman Dairy Company of Wisconsin (now part of Kraft Foods).

#"cheese"shame
I am pretty sure we've had this conversation before. And all I can say is that I think it's appropriate that Wisconsin does not claim Provel. I assume it disowned the inventor.

OK, SERIOUSLY IMPORTANT MISSOURI QUESTION! What's the deal on alcohol? I can get to a Whole Foods and a Dierbergs on the Metrolink. Can I buy wine there? What about liquor? THESE ARE THE IMPORTANT QUESTIONS!
Also, my room does not have a refrigerator, so if I buy a bottle of chilled white or rose, this means I have to drink the entire bottle in one night, correct?

YES!! Dierbergs has everything and is an amazing amazing store. I miss it so much. Beer and wine at least. I'm 99% sure liquor but I lived there 10 years ago so things might have changed.
And yes, if you have no refrigeration, you'll have to drink it all in one night! My recommendation is to fill the sink with cold water and ice from the ice machine to keep it cold while you're drinking it. But you def can't leave it that way all day becuase the cleaning people might steal it. That would be tragic!!

Where exactly are you staying?
Why don't I just put my room number online so someone can skinsuit me?

All alcohol is easily accessible in grocery stores thanks to Anheuser-Busch lobbyists. If you can get to that Whole Foods, there is a TJs and Target across the street.
