OK, SERIOUSLY IMPORTANT MISSOURI QUESTION! What's the deal on alcohol? I can get to a Whole Foods and a Dierbergs on the Metrolink. Can I buy wine there? What about liquor? THESE ARE THE IMPORTANT QUESTIONS!
Also, my room does not have a refrigerator, so if I buy a bottle of chilled white or rose, this means I have to drink the entire bottle in one night, correct?
MO will hook you up with booze. Bars stay open late and you can buy booze everywhere. Including gas stations and groceries. I think all hours of the day.
Hi. I'm from STL. Good suggestions. I will second most of what BeagleMama said, with particular love for Bailey's Range, Fountain on Locust Pappy's Smokehouse and Mission Taco Joint. Pastaria is also really good.
Also: Seoul Taco, Ices Plain and Fancy, Steve's Hot Dogs, Bogart's and I am partial to Dooley's Beef N Brew for a hamburger.
If you want higher end, I can make recs there, too.
ETA: Any grocery store can sell you liquor. If you want to try Missouri wine (I mean, I wouldn't but a lot of people do) Dierbergs has a good selection.

Downtown food recs: Sauce on the Side Bailey's Range Mango Blood and Sand if you're a cocktailaholic/foodie (it's a private club but they will let you in as a guest) Tazé Mediterranean Street Food is new and delicious City Garden often has food trucks (and also is cool to visit)
Other food recs (all walkable from Metrolink): Tavolo V (the Loop) Thai Country Cafe (the Loop) Fitz's (the Loop) - so fun to see the bottle root beer, the best floats EVER! Gokul Indian (the Loop) Cucina Pazzo (Central West End) Pi (CWE) The Block (CWE) Brasserie (CWE) - yummy brunch Bixby's (Forest Park - at the History Museum) - especially for Sunday brunch, it's $$ but THE BEST!! Sauce on The Side (location in Clayton too) Remy's Wine Bar (Clayton) Pastaria (Clayton)
Also - it would be great if you could rent a car for a few days at least. There are several cool things that are not accessible by Metrolink that you could hit. The brewery is one. Grant's Farm is fun (and also FREE BEER!!), Meramec Caverns, Alton and Grafton IL are fun to visit, Cherokee Street (funky, antique shops, cool coffeeshops, a whole long row of authentic Mexican taquerias), Botanical Garden, Butterfly House..
I highly recommend visiting Tower Grove Farmer's Market on a Saturday morning! It's so fun, live music to hang out as well as browse!

Ok, but remember I will be working most of the time I'm there. I am not renting a car for the weekdays because I will basically go to work, hit the gym, eat dinner, and go to bed. And I figure there are enough decent places to eat within a 15 minute walk of the Metrolink that it's not worth renting a car and paying for hotel parking. And I figure the weekend will be spent in Forest Park, at City Museum, and lounging at the hotel pool.
If I rent a car, it will honestly be to go visit my cousin in KC.
tacosforlife Oops, skimmed the post and missed the whole "work" part. The Amtrak has a nice route from STL to KC too, if it works in your schedule. It's cheap!

It also takes nearly 6 hours. I can rent a car for $15/day. If I go to KC to visit my cousin over the weekend (I'm 50/50 on that), renting a car is the only way to go.

Yes, Dierbergs will have a full selection of beer / wine / liquor.
If you do go to City Garden, the restaurant there Death in the Afternoon is worth visiting for lunch (but maybe doesn't merit a separate trip of you aren't out that way).

UPDATE!
Where would you recommend eating dinner near City Museum? Looking for something inexpensive and probably not too heavy because it's balls hot here. I need something for tonight. My plan for the day: manicure, Arch (not going up), dinner, City Museum, dive bar.
Tomorrow's plan is: run, maybe church, brunch at Rooster, art museum/Forest Park, grocery shopping/prep for the week.
So far, notable eats are: Mission Taco Joint, Sauce on the Side (a calzone restaurant - Ben Wyatt's dream come true!), and Guido's on The Hill (Zia's had an hour wait, but yes, I got toasted ravioli and everything was great and the bechamel on my pasta was particularly awesome).

ALSO! My room has a fridge. So I only had to drink half that bottle of rosé on Monday night and drank the other half on Wednesday night. And I was able to buy a bottle of Noah's Mill (114-proof bourbon) at the grocery store.
We don't usually eat down on Washington, but DH recommends not hanging around near City Museum after dark, fwiw.
One of my colleagues is always eating at Hiro Kitchen though and Blood and Sand is nearby (members only but maybe there is a guest membership? And surely not cheap). And not sure you would want to go there after the City Museum if you are going to climb.
My favorite casual place downtown is Bailey's Range. It is a longer walk but I love their fries and alcoholic shakes. The burgers tend to be more done than ordered so something to keep in mind. They have some good salads too. Also maybe in a nicer area.
I'm a member of Blood and Sand and they do let non-members in - just call and ask. Especially if you're just sitting in the bar area. I love Bailey's Range too, but it's not light eating.

Legit question: how do y'all live here? I haven't even made it off the Metrolink platform, and I want to go back to my hotel. The weather is 100 percent vile.
I would, even though I know nothing about you and vice versa I could save you from falling into the rooster trap tomorrow… lol
Can we brunch somewhere? Somewhere cheap with booze and AIR CONDITIONING??? Fucking gross here.
Everywhere will have air conditioning! I think there is a giant slip n slide downtown if you need to cool off outdoors (reservations needed ?). Or there is City Garden.
I could probably make it to a city or near suburbs brunch although with a 1 year old in tow.

The weather is why I told DH I'd never stay there. And he'd never go back because of it. It's as far south as I ever lived. When DH applied for jobs I told him I wouldn't go any further. Now after being in Cleveland, this is prob as far south as we'd ever go!! We don't even visit his fam in the summer. Hope you're having fun. Stay cool. I
