So I am coming out of the stone age and wanting to get a new Garmin for running . My old is over 10 years old and works just fine, but of course it's bulky and I want to upgrade.
Any first hand recommendations / pros and cons on current models and what I should get would be greatly appreciated.

I switched from Garmin to tom tom earlier this year bc I hated the chest strap HRM. Garmin just came out with an optical HRM watch as well. I would strongly recommend that option, it's so much more comfortable when I run now. However, I would also recommend the tomtom. I love it.
The 225 looks fab and if you want to do HR monitoring, it's the way to go. The 220 is lighter based on the DC rainmaker review. I love my 220 and if you're looking to spend less, I would highly recommend it.
I have the 210 (black and teal coloured) and I have never used the HRM chest strap. I love the 210 although the charging clip for it isn't brilliant, can be a bit temperamental to connect.
I have a 225 and I'm pretty obsessed. I wear it all the time for activity tracking plus obviously for runs. The optical HR sensor seems to work very well and it's so much better than a chest strap.
Thanks for the advice everybody! I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the 225. I got at REI online and will get 30$ in dividends from it. I wasn't an REI shopper before but they had it in stock and for a good deal, so why not!?

Yay!!! Mine came yesterday and I'm already in love.

I went from the Garmin 405 to the 620. I liked the 225 but I "need" the virtual pacer when I race. Only the 620 had it. Very happy with my choice so far.
