But this is all about chemicals right? I sort of skimmed it. Do things like coppertone (which I use on Jamie) not protect as well? Because it seems like all the recommended sunscreens are the natural ones
I don't know if I can believe stuff from this website because they kind of give information that is twisted. The stuff about Retinyl Palmitate is really over the top and fear mongerish.
They also list La Roche Posay sunscreen as one of their recommended sunscreens. I have a bottle of it in my hand and it has Oxybenzone in it, too.
Yeah, as I've said before, I know that the sun causes cancer, so that's what I'm going to focus on, you know? I don't blame people who are worried about other things also, but my main focus is sun protection and Jamie doesn't burn OR tan through coppertone, and he does ran through the natural stuff.
I ran through everything. My skin is hopeless. Big hats, sunglasses, sunscreen and an umbrella
L has my skin and produces melanin super easy even with broad spectrum and titanium dioxide based products. I haven't been able to find a UVA blocking sunscreen that doesn't have the benzones. The titanium dioxide stuff like Babyganics seems to come off super easy and not protect like I need it to when he is active. :/

I wish I had not read this article. Like I need more anxiety.
Hugs. I think it's natural for parents to try to worry about everything, but I try (try is the key word) to focus on the things I can control.
I also worry that people trying to avoid potential carcinogens in sunscreen are doing so at the expense of letting in the known carcinogen - the sun. Because if you're tanning, you're damaging your skin.

I try to be more scared of skin cancer. Also, I burn so incredibly easily, that I pretty much have to use the bad shit. It sucks. I worry about Zoe, though. I stopped using the neutragena spray stuff on her and went back to babyganics. We haven't had problems with her burning with that on, even with swimming, I just liked the ease of the spray, but I worry so damn much about her skin and her health.

This is tough for me too, because here, the sun is SO strong, and we are flying through sunscreen because I have to put it on every 30-45 minutes for the kids. Babyganics is not working as well; they are burning easily with it. Coppertone is working best, and it's yough to weigh which is worse, the strong UV Rays here or the sunscreen brand. I feel like repeated burn is worse, but I still feel panicked and shitty thinking about the chemicals.

I'm really pissed that H and I got a little red in a few places with Badger sport today despite applying 30 minutes before the pool and reapplying an hour later.
It's the first time this season I had them in regular strap suits vs rash guards. Rash guards are the only thing I really trust. If someone tells me they will cause cancer too I'm giving up.
I am also more concerned about the sun than the chemicals-- even though maybe I shouldn't be, I agree with others above that the sun is the known carcinogen.
We use Coppertone or target brand and Delaney has never had a sunburn
I just bought a bunch of neutrogena wet skin kids lol.
I am really glad for whoever decided rash guards are cool, because I use so much less sunscreen on her with them. I'm also excited for with a boy long shorts and a rash guard is so much less exposed skin!

We use neutragina baby. My husband is allergic to most sunscreens and that is the only one we have found that he can use. Also Noah has horribly sensitive skin and that doesn't make him break out. It works great for us. They didn't specify the baby one, just a baby wet one and that isn't the one we use.

We're a mile closer to the sun here, so I feel you. When we go to the mountains (another 3-4K feet up), I use the adult SPORT version of whatever I can find on her (coppertone usually works best). It lasts longer and doesn't even irritate her super sensitive skin. I cannot risk a sunburn on this little redhead. You gotta do what you gotta do.
ETA: in Denver I use badger. It's awful to apply and she looks like a ghost, but it works.
We've been using babyganics. Both kids definitely have a tan on their arms and legs where they are exposed. They both have rash guards and hats. I think day to day we stick with that and if we are going to be in the sun all day, I will switch to something stronger.

We have been using beach defense. Oldest hasn't burned or tanned much, middle is dark, and little has a slight tan.
We're doing our best, though I have thought about going with blue lizard for the initial application of the day then sprays after. I have friends that have done that and it works well.
We use Babyganics day to day, also on the beach. I bought the kids Coppertone one too, she tans through that as well. I need to get something else to see if it will prevent tanning. I think being on the beach and in the water for the majority of the time isn't helping. I apply it every 45-60 min but it's so hard to keep her out of the water for longer than 5 minutes. I also find that when I reapply and rub in the sunscreen it's irritating her skin because as much as I try to get the sand off of her, there is always a little that acts as a bad exfoliator.

FYI diapers.com and their affiliate soap.com are offering 20% off on sunscreens. The code for diapers.com is "summerday". There is also 2% ebates and yes they carry a few "bad ones" :-).
I think we are going to stick with Badger and Babyganics for their faces, school, and initial application. Then use wetskin and all its chemicals for reapplication on limbs on pool days.
