We did this in 2008! It was great. Pack layers - you will be cold and wet at times. I was glad to have a waterproof, medium weight jacket. Scarf, hat etc for the glaciers. Have a great time!
I believe my parents have cruised on the Millenium before, but not in Alaska. They really enjoyed it. I've been on the Summit and thought it was really great. Celebrity has excellent food and entertainment.

Definitely join the Cruise Critic Roll Call for your sailing. Many times people are looking to share excursions, which is fun and 99% of the time WAY cheaper than booking through the cruise. People usually also have suggestions.
BTW we're going on the Millennium in November but to Asia, not Alaska, so report back!
It was sunny, one day, while we were there, apparently, that never happens! We did lots of active excursions, so I wore yoga pants, tennis shoes, and a long sleeve sweater for those. I also had a lightweight rain jacket from Columbia that I feel like I wore everyday. It rained a lot, I would recommend packing rain boots as well. If you are going on a glacier you will want ski pants and a windproof jacket and sunglasses.
I wore leggings and sweatshirts/sweaters/long cardigans while on the boat.
If you are going to Juneau, you must eat here: kingcrabshack.com. It is really close to the port and seriously one of the best meals I have ever had. Definitely the best in Alaska.
I can't really remember anything else.. If you have any specific questions, let me know!
Many years ago we did one on Holland America in Aug. Vancouver - Seward. It was cold and drizzly until we got up to Valdez. Take the tram if you're stopping in Juneau.

incognitotoday - thanks for the update! It is the same ship (15 years old now) and I was a little worried about it being outdated. I know they did some refurbishments but I guess not enough.
