Newborns are exhausting. For the past several nights, A has been up crying for literally hours in the very late evening like 9 - 1 a.m. After that, she'll only sleep a couple of hours at a time. Then, we're up early morning with Violet. It's exhausting. H and I are trying to tackle it together, but he is only working 1/2 days now and eventually I know he's going to crap out on me. Last night, we gave each other a 3 hour break or so to sleep in the other room. It's really stressful. to handle the crying portion for hours alone, which is why we have been working together.
Tell me it gets better. Also, when does it get better? Any suggestions or ideas for helping things along? We are swaddling, using white noise, RnP, shushing, etc.
I'm researching getting a night nurse if things don't improve in a week or so. I don't remember it being like this with Violet, but I'm probably just having a mental block.
I am totally never doing this again and saying that out loud makes me feel a little better! 2 and through, for sure!!
I am so sorry. L had the crying fits in the evenings and it was literally awful. I would put him in the car and drive around and around the high school parking lot until he would finally go to sleep.
Can you call the pedi? It's not reflux or gas pain, right?
Also, I don't know if it was case of just having a different baby with a different temperament, but I put E on the Gerber Soothe probiotic drops from the start. She didn't have the insane crying fits in the evening that L had.
I'm really sorry. Lincoln cried from midnight to 6am every.single.night. It got better around 4 weeks? His was caused by gas, maybe A has that as well..
Also we just bought a cosleeper and are setting it up to try it out tonight. Part of me is wondering if she just doesn't like the sleep chair? I doubt that though.
How do you know if your baby has reflux? She has only spit up once ever, but she does a lot of chewing her cud and making faces.
I just called our CVS and they have them in stock. Excited to try something new!
We've also been supplementing with a little formula and I'm wondering if the one we are using (Similac for supplementation) is bothering her. Maybe we should switch to using Similac sensitive or Gentelease?
Look up the symptom list for silent reflux. Neither of my kids spit up but both had bad silent reflux. The chewing is one symptom and also with Alex we could hear it coming up and going back down

Yeah switch to sensitive version. The other versions gave my kids fussy tummies and made them have poop problems. Do you ever notice any mucus in her poop?
It get better! So much better!!!!! Last night Henry slept from 11:10- 6:45!!!!!!!! And William slept to 7:15. I feel amazing in comparison to what I did at your point. Henry will be 3 months old on Thursday. Good luck. Remember it won't be like this forever!

I used Similac for Supplementation with E and Gentlease with L . I didn't think the Gentlease made a difference. I would try Soothe drops first before switching the formula. With E, I noticed a change in her within 24 hours of using them.
I'm loving all of these ideas because it's giving me some hope that we can get this worked out and it won't be like this for months. We'll start with trying the Soothe Drops. If that doesn't work after a few days, maybe a different formula? Her poop seems pretty normal, but there is a TON of it. Like, every time I change her, she has pooped. Only once did I see mucus, and that was when she was only a couple of days old and might have been part of the bilirubin issue.
Where would I turn if I didn't have you guys? So freaking grateful for this support, seriously.
Oh, also I mentioned possible reflux at our last pedi appointment because of the cud chewing thing. And they just said that all babies have reflux to a certain degree and most will grow out of it. Our next appointment isn't until July 20, so if the Soothe drops/trying a different formula don't make a difference, I'll try to get in sooner and see if that could be the issue.
I have a sample tub of Gentleease at home if you end up needing to try a different formula. It's never been opened, so you're more than welcome to it!
Thank you for offering! I think I have a sample tub of it too. I haven't cracked open the Enfamil gift box, but I'm pretty sure there is one of those in there.
May used to cry from 6 pm to 12 am every night. It was awful. I read newborn crying peaks at 6 weeks and is almost always gone by 3 months. That held true for us.

Oh lord, I can't make it 10 more weeks of this!!! Glad to hear we're not alone though. That really does help!
