Know how you all asked if the fusions were related to the stroke and I said no? Well, everyone said no until today. The neurosurgeon said that it's extremely rare, but it is growth hormones that signal the sutures to close. Because of his stroke and loss of brain volume, those were triggered prematurely which is why they fused. And because he is missing volume, his brain has plenty of room to grow and pressure is a nonissue.
The plastic surgeon here agrees as he didn't know the extent of the stroke when we met. It all makes sense and fits together now. I am so relieved. We will continue to monitor his head size as he grows and he goes for a re-check in 6 months.
Thank you for all the vibes and juju. I feel like an elephant has been lifted off my chest.
Relatedly, I know pugz took up a collection for us thinking we would be traveling for surgery. I'm not sure how she wants to handle that, but I will not need time off for this now and travel expenses will be much less. I just want to be honest and I am happy to return contributions if you all would like. You guys are the best and I've truly been touched by your generosity.
Re. donations, I imagine you have/will have a fair amount of medical expenses? My contribution was to help out you/your family, so I have no problem with the money still going to your family, even if the immediate costs aren't as extreme as you'd thought. I'd also have no objections to the contributions going to Ronald McDonald house either.

Such amazing news! I agree with everyone above. The donation was for the medical expenses/travel expenses/missed work even before you knew about the surgery. If they can help you guys out that way please use them. If not, I also vote for donate.
