I'm not sure which line she used but a friend of mine had luck with rodan and fields for her melasma. I use their spf and really like it. I used Colorescience when DS was little bc he hated me rubbing lotion on. I got it on amazon. It seemed to work well.

Physical sunscreen really is the best. I use Cerave. It says it's clear, but it requires a lot of rubbing in!
I use Palmer's Eventone on my skin discoloration. I've only been using it about 3 weeks, and they say something with hydroquinine needs to be used months before seeing a difference.
I also have pretty bad melasma. Based on the recommendations of a dermatologist, I use EltaMD sunscreen--I love it, it's AMAZING! Super easy to apply, goes on really smoothly like a regular facial moisturizer, it doesn't feel like sunscreen at all, and it's not noticeable on at all (no white tint). It's hard to believe that it is a physical sunscreen instead of chemical.
I apply Colorscience during the day before heading outside. My sister also uses Colorscience before she goes outside for runs. We both really like it. I've never burned with it on, nor does my melasma seem to get worse.
I recommended both to a coworker who also loves them.
