ssmjlm what kind of rate did you have in 2008? Was it for a 15 or a 30 year? I'm not seeing how it was possible to have something in the 4s (or lower) in 2008 based on the historical data I'm seeing for a 30 year fixed in 2008. Is it possible you refi'ed?
We bought around 4.75% in 2008. We did a refi in 2011 (maybe 12) at 3.25%.
SJ I'm seeing pretty much between 4-4.3% right now.
I would seriously club a baby seal - scratch that, I would club EVERY BABY SEAL ALIVE - if I could get my student loans down to 4 percent.
I just took out a Citizens education refinance loan and with various discounts (loyalty, automatic withdrawal) the rate is 4.74%. I wish it was lower - and it SHOULD be - but it's an enormous savings from my previous average around 6.9%. I've seen lower rates from other lenders but I wanted to go with a more established bank.
We bought in 2003 at 6.25%. We were then unable to refinance it because we ended up renting it out when the market tanked and we couldn't sell it. So when everyone else was refinancing for 3%, we were stuck at 6.25%. It was the suck.
Our old house, the 1st mortgage was 6.25% for about 5 years until we could refi it down to 5% even. However we couldn't ever refi our HELOC because of negative equity, which was at 9.25% until we moved in March of 2014. And we have great credit! That was an awful experience.
