I was reading tweets that people were back in the water right after the attack. WTF? Also can we talk about the man-o-wars washing up in Jersey? I LOVE swimming in the ocean and even I am a little um, hesistant
I have a friend at the beach in NC right now. She said that people were fishing FOR SHARKS from the beach. They caught one and then released it right back into the water. Where people were swimming.

I knew it was you who had posted this before I read your name. Because fucking sharks, man.
Sidenote: I was at my sister's house yesterday and my nieces (5 and 4) told me to close my eyes because they had a surprise for me. The surprise was holding up a book with pictures of sharks. They wanted me to scream in terror (I obliged) LOL

Dude, those are no joke. I told my sister that she should keep herself and my niece on the sand this weekend.
I never understand people that just soldier on in the waves after an attack like they don't give a fuck. Are you going to go roam around the savannah in shorts and flip flops and hope a lion doesn't catch your slow ass? You're on their turf.
We're going to Ocracoke next week- location of the most recent attack. DH loves to take an inner tube and a couple beers and go out past the first breaker and float around. Yeah, thtas were the attack happened. DH said heh won't be going out this year. GOOD.

That's pretty much how I feel about it. People act surprised that there are shark attacks. Uh...you're swimming in their home!
I am not sure if there is some phenomena near that area that is create the problem. But in general- we are more likely to be injured driving to the beach than going in the ocean, and the latter is so much more enjoyable.
But I like to visit sharks as a destination, so I am the odd one out.
I like diving with sharks, but I've only ever been around relatively small reef sharks.
My sister has been cage diving with great whites, though. She said it was awesome.
There were some sharks only 10 feet from shore when I was in Maui a few years ago. It's made me a bjt more nervous when I'm out snorkelling, however, your odds are still good.
The ocean is not my ecosystem, I do not belong there, and I hate having sand stuck to me. In conclusion, I hate the beach. I will continue to stay away.
