Those without AC can commiserate but it's been uncomfortable lately! Finally willing to pull the trigger on AC and wondering if anyone has recommendations for a good company with good prices. We have contacted a Lennox company thru Costco and awaiting this reply for a free quote. My in laws got theirs installed last winter and cost them $7k. Is that a good price? I'm guessing ours is going to cost more because our house is bigger. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
I didn't think the size of the house mattered for how much an installation costs. But whether your furnace room has space and vents for the AC installation? I'm not sure though. I'm assuming you mean central AC, right? I think the average cost of installation is 7-10k.
You may also want to get a quote on a heat pump.
I actually don't know if the size of house mattered :? I was just guessing. Yes I was talking about central AC. Our house is a little less than 5 years old. We declined AC installation for 5k...doh! Now it's going to cost us more. Sad.

We regret not getting it in our house when it was being built. It was only like $2k but we thought "this is WA, we won't need it." I am pretty confident the hot summers will be the new norm here. I called Bob's Heating to get a quote and now it's like $8k to get installed (they installed our hearing). They do have a 20% off sale in March (some other companies offer it too), so it may be worth waiting until then? I've also heard quite a few offer 0% interest if you decide to finance it...

It was $5k when our house was being built in 2010. I thought it was a little steep and that's exactly what we were thinking...this is Seattle! When did you build yours? Just curious about the pricing difference. Great idea on waiting for sale. Everyone is also saying these hot summers are going to be the new norm here. DH went out on Friday and everyone was sold out on portable ACs. We ended up ordering online. Crossing fingers it gets here by Tuesday. Watch it will be cold and rainy by then

Our house was built last year - it was with a huge builder though so maybe that has something to do with it? I'm not sure.
We ordered the room AC unit from Home Depot last week and it's supposed to be here today. We have until September to return it if we end up not using it, but I think it might be nice to have anyway...even for next year. It was only $400 so if we get a few years out of it, that's worth it to me.
Our house gets SO hot in the evening because the family room and our master is on the back of the house, where the sun is during the hottest part of the day. They start building the house behind us in September and as much as I'm not looking forward to it, at least it will help block a lot of the sun.
We will probably re-consider central AC in the next few years. It adds a good amount of value to homes, which is nice.
"Move to Washington," they said. "It's so mild here," they said. LIARS.
Hahaha yeah... Sorry about that. I swear to God the summers have gotten hotter in recent years. When I was a kid I distinctly remember 85 degrees making the news for being a "heat wave".
The builder for the condo place said that Sound Heating would install for around $5500 I have to wait until this house closes to get the AC going - 3 stories no AC is not going to work out for me
when we built our current house, it was $5500 to install. a friend down the street just got it installed after the fact for $6k. for the new house we are building it would've been $6k, but we opted not to do it.

Ours was ordered from Home Depot too! Supposed to be here tomorrow. Oh and it's going to be cooling off from today. Not complaining at all
We'll also definitely consider the central AC....just as soon as Costco contractor calls us back with a quote.

Ours was pushed back and should be delivered this weekend so annoying. We should have bought one of the Costco portable units when we saw it there this weekend!
I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Costco contractor installation if you don't mind sharing, once they give you the details?

June/July wasn't great last year, but I don't think it's been this bad in a long time.
That said, XSMIL's house had central air, she said it cost $6k, and I was ... tempted. This is what happens when you have to renovate your kitchen
I guess I'm more thankful that we ended up where we did, since this is the only house we looked at that had A/C. Sure makes running unpleasant, though. I'm tempted to start getting up at 4 to get it in before work

Ours was pushed back to tomorrow...or so they say. Supposed to be here today when originally ordered.
Will definitely share about Costco peeps when I hear back from them
