Well, she is even crazier than I thought. She called me yesterday saying she has no money. Because ALL OF IT was in canadian dollars. She brought like 100 euros. So she gave the money she owed to her siblings and is left with like $3KCAD to spend the next two months. In Greece. With a shortage of euros everywhere. OMG.
and it gets worse. She has $0 in her bank account so she can't use her debit card either. She tried to get cash out of her credi card but it didn't work. She tried multiple banks who all refuse to change her CAD for euros. DUH.
I'm laughing and shaking my head in disbelief at the same time. We asked her if she had cash before she left and she was all "Yes, of course, lots of it". IN THE WRONG CURRENCY. And let's face it, CAD is not USD, nobody wants it. And she is in the middle of nowhere, not in a touristic area.
My dad will wire money to her bank account and she will be fine. And she will fly back with all her money. At least I am not worried about her getting robbed anymore. LOL
H is like: I really don't think I can ever trust that woman's judgment ever again. Not that I had much faith in her to begin with...
This is so bizarre, papie. So her Greek relatives are stuck with thousands of CAD?
Traveling with so much cash was dangerous, but it seemed at least a little bit practical for everyone involved that she was bringing cash euros to Greece. But CAD? So much WTF.

I was actively worrying about your mom last night. All. That. Cash. And so many desperate people. In a million years I wouldn't have imagined she was bringing CAD to Greece. Not in a million years. I'm glad I don't have to worry about her money any more.
Holy hell. Maybe in addition to cash, your family should ship her some cigarettes and other dry goods to barter with. Considering where Greece is headed.

Shhhhhhh
We are going in August and I really don't want to cancel

I'll have to tell my mom this update. I told her the other day and she was like "Eeesh. She needs to lay low with all that cash." I'll have to tell her that nobody wants Canadian money after all. Lol
PR is constantly being called the Greece of the Caribbean
Man, shit is rough.
Ugh.
Thread jack!
I know! I had no idea until the news was all Greece, and the PR just sort of raised its hand and cleared it throat. I still don't understand what's happening in PR.

It's not good. Not good at all.
We've seen it coming, and we all knew it would happen.
But between our weak status with the US, our ginormous deficit and he economy of the island, it's early 1930s mass migration all over again.
And I don't think there's a Bernstein/Sondheim musical that can save us.
Boarder Security has lead me to believe that she would have been questioned for hours by friendly well-meaning boarder security guards for carrying that kind of cash.

$10,000 is the limit you are allowed. But I don't think they see it unless they go through your bag anyway.
