I'm sorry you have to deal with this crap on vacation. Maybe it wasn't the greatest idea to take the cat, but you're not an idiot, you were just trying to help. I hope you get in soon and are able to get back to having fun!

you are not an idiot. You are a very nice person who was doing a favor for a stranger, and I hope you retain that impulse. She's an idiot for having a cat loose in the airport out of its crate. I hope you get better quick.
I have to chime in here. Having traveled with my pets; including a cat several times, you HAVE to take your pets out of their crate to go through security. It sucks and is totally stressful but if you have to travel with a pet, you have to do it. I feel for @stpete that she got scratched but if someone asked if they could hold one of my pets in that same situation I would have looked at them like they were nuts and said NO!
I'm sorry you had to get a tetanus shot Stpete. That sucks

So sorry
FWIW, one of my cats is an enthusiastic eater, and accidentally bit my finger just like that not long after we adopted him. Within 24 hours of antibiotics starting, it was WAY better. Really painful til then, but it did get better really quickly. Hoping for the same for you.

Oh, I'm sorry, but that scratch looked pretty bad. I'm glad you're not letting it go unattended. Seriously, it was a year to get my cat scratch completely healed, and mine was only almost as bad as yours, and mine was bad.
Fuck that lady and her fucking cat. GTFO that her cat *had* to go to St Louis. Stop. It may have been an emotional support cat. Who are you to judge her?!
