If it is just me, I love it.
However my daughter is deathly afraid of dogs. Like high pitched squeal and climbing up my leg if one is near her. If a store had a dog we would be hard pressed to go in there if not necessary.

I'm cool with it. We have a local barbershop that has a resident African Grey Parrot; he hangs out in his perch during the day and when the weather is nice he gets to spend time out on the sidewalk.

Meh. Not a huge fan but I don't get bent out of shape about it. I went to a plumbing supply showroom recently and the owner had two tiny dogs running around; if a business owner brings pets to their place of business, I prefer it to be the kind of pet who sits around on a bed in the corner. (Obviously, I am not a dog person.)
I guess it depends on the situation. My son is severely allergic to cats so I would likely not visit a shop that has a cat there very often, b/c when i'm out shopping I usually have my kids with me. Within a very short time in a house with a cat he ends up looking like he got punched in the face, with swollen, black eyes, itching, sneezing, runny nose etc. It just wouldn't be worth it to me. That said i've been to stores that have had very well behaved dogs and that was no problem for me, but I can see why others would have issues with it. But they must be well behaved! I also find it annoying when someone brings their pet into a store that clearly says "no pets allowed."
My parents have a store and their dog is practically the mascot. More than one regular customer brings the dog treats. Several people build in extra time when they come to play with the dog.
I do wonder about people with allergies; seems it would suck for them.
If the pet belongs to the business owner and stays out of the way, I don't mind. Cat in a flower shop? NBD. Well-behaved dog in a hardware store? Love it. I'm not allergic though, and I can see how that would obviously make a difference to a lot of people.
No problem, though I am rethinking the huge German Shepard named Monster at the bowling ball guy's shop. That's quite the animal name with just a tiny 3 foot door.

There are times and places where it works well. Ex an antiquarian book shop in Oregon had a sweet West Highland Terrier. He was a total love. If you wanted to pet him he was all for the love. If you wanted to wander the shop and ignore him, that was fine too.
Even allergic to cats, I'd be cool with the flower shop cat as long as it was willing to leave me alone.
the hair salon I go to has a shop cat that is a total sweetheart - she loves to cuddle and sit on laps for pets, but only when invited. They do have a basement that she can go to if there is a customer that is allergic or hates cats but that's an infrequent occurrence.
I don't really like it because there are a lot of people who are afraid or allergic. Not everyone loves your pet so I think it's kind of inconsiderate. It's easy to avoid animals on the street or a park, but not so easy when you're in an enclosed store trying to shop.
Love it! Especially if it's a furry pup who wants to be loved on. I am obviously a dog lover.
My dream would be to live in a super dog-friendly town where basically every business has a dog and customers bring their dogs around wherever they go, too. Carmel, CA was close to being like that and I loved it.
But I do understand there are issues such as fear, allergies, etc.
