I was probably that age when I saw it as a re-run at the drive-in with my parents/family. I loved the scary parts. However, we played Jaws (with sound effects) for the next 5 summers, at least. Which annoyed my parents greatly. "Stop acting like you are getting attacked by a shark!" Coping with PTSD, maybe? So, be prepared for some rather loud, inappropriate play for a while.

All my friends with older kids said they thought Jaws would be scary for their kids, but when they saw it, the kids all thought it was so fake and ridiculous. All the kids thought it wasn't scary at all.
Jaws was one of the few movies we owned as a kid. I watched it all the time. I'm still afraid to go in deep, dark water. I was practically hyperventilating while snorkeling on vacation as an adult. LOL. But my sibling, who also watched it as a kid, has no issues. Surfs, loves the ocean. This is so kid specific.
DS1 has seen it and he's ten. He probably saw it for the first time around nine. Also my son was like 'That shark is so fake mom" as long its on tv and they aren't showing boobs and stuff its fine.
I would have been fine. I watched PG 13 stuff all the time at that age.
You know what the scariest part of Jaws is though? When Quint tells the story about the USS Indianapolis. I saw the movie at 32 for the first time and had nightmares for a week. As a kid I doubt it would have phased me.
Exactly this! I know it is irrational but the hearing the music from Jaws still makes my heart pound.
Of course seeing it at age 8 while vacationing on Lake Michigan probably wasn't the best parenting call by my parents. My kid logic went pretty much like this: large lake = ocean = sharks = not going in the water the whole week to my parent's dismay.
For David? Nope. He's 6 and I let him watch PG movies but fuck no would I let him watch Jaws. But I also know my kid and it would seriously terrify him. I get that all kids are different and have different fears. I feel like David wouldn't go near the ocean if I let him watch this.
My 6 year old loves Jaws. He has been watching it for a few years now. Someone asked him how he could like the movie because it's so scary and he told them the shark is clearly fake. He also liked sharknado. Maybe my kid just likes shark movies
The full frontal nudity if I reacall was fairly dark and shadowed. If he has bad dreams or something, perhaps try finding some of the making of footage so he can see that it wasn't a real shark. Also, it's Shark Week.
I'd let David watch The Hangover before I let him watch Jaws, lol.
But I let David watch the first Jurassic Park a few weeks ago. A lot of people said that movie terrified them. David didn't find it scary at all and said it was ridiculous. llllol I didn't find it scary either, though. Jaws was really scary to me even as an older kid.
