I have a boatload of stuffed animals my kids don't play with (there are even more they do). I want them out of my house but it seems a shame to trash them. They're all new and some are really nice. What can I do with them? Will the nicer ones sell (for cheap...$1?) aty upcoming yard sale? Can I donate them somewhere?
My local church run thrift store takes them. They sell some, the use some in the classrooms at the school affiliated with the same church, send up for children in the hospital and the rest end up going to children who are suffering catastrophic life events (house fires, parent abuse where CPS took them away, parent death...etc).
You might be able to sell them. If not there are places that will take a donation. There is an equine therapy place locally that takes them. Ask around I'm sure someone does.
Mine just go to the Salvation Army or Community Living or whoever is getting my other crap. Although I do try toys at Once Upon a Child, now, too. They don't take many stuffed animals, though.
I've always just given them to Goodwill with all the other toy donations. We usually make SS go through all of his toys and clothes once or twice a year (birthday/Christmas time usually) and decide what he wants to donate.
Check with your local police/fire department. Some departments keep stuffed animals around to give to children when they are called to a situation where the kids might be scared, hurt, or just in need of a distraction.

Our fire department takes them to give to kids who are hurt or scared. We had a fire in our yard at 3am and had to get our kids up and take them outside away from the house and they gave them stuffies that were obviously washed, so I am assuming used. It was a nice soother for the kids. They also gave them when a transformer caught fire across the street and we didn't have power for 5 days. We have donated many more back to them. I put them in a bag for a month or two, and then donate them if no one freaks out.
