It was really an awful thing to say, but calling HR if this was her first indiscretion was definitely "going nuclear" as Jenny said.
It's her first indiscretion regarding my pregnancy. She has made numerous negative comments in the past.
I took bonding time off for DD. she told me that foster kids don't need bonding time and that she couldn't believe it was granted. She also told me my husband should step up to the plate so I didn't need to take as much bonding time. (I took 3 weeks)
So weird. It's completely rude but also makes no sense. How does one jump from "I'm having a baby in 24 weeks" to "That must mean this was a mistake." Is she saying that obviously you would not have INTENTIONALLY planned to screw up her year end so therefore it MUST be a mistake? Because that would make her both rude AND self centered.

So we're coworkers? My boss did both of these things, although not to the same person. She freaked out about a coworker (who had to have fertility treatments to get pregnant) being out on leave during year-end and didn't even congratulate her (she ended up having the baby early so she was back in time). She asked another if she knew who the father of her child was. (She finally apologized for that like a year ago, and this happened in 2001). She told a third that it "wasn't done" to take a 12 week leave (and yes, we qualify for FMLA). Boy am I glad I'm CFBC, because I'm pretty sure I'd have to announce a pregnancy by email at this point.
Congratulations on the PG news. Your baby is very lucky to have a mom like you. Your boss is odd and self centered. You did the right thing by putting HR on notice.

{Head explodes} She sounds like one of those people either with zero empathy or who really dislikes people with kids. And a bitch. I'm glad you called HR.

Who are these people, and his do they get to be supervisors?
