In 2011 I had planned a 3 week vacation to visit South America and Antarctica. I had always wanted to say I went to all 7 continents and these were the last 2 on my list. The trip was planned before I met H so I was going solo. The first part of the trip went wonderfully I saw Argentina & Uruguay. When I arrived in Patagonia to embark on the ship that's when things went south. We get news that the boat was broken and after 3 days of trying to fix the boat the trip was cancelled. I am not in a good mood to say the least instead of trying to come up with alternate plans in South America I get on the first flight I can home. H was very sweet trying to cheer me up that week and get my mind off the cancelled trip. He suggested we take Paddy for a walk at Gas Works Park on Saturday morning. I didn't think anything of it. Before we leave he asks if I have my camera - of course I have my camera with me. We walk up the hill and he is all upset that there was a couple there taking engagement photos. He says come on lets get out of here as I'm taking my time taking photos. We walk down the hill a little bit and he stops. Starts talking about how happy he is that he met me and next thing I know he drops Paddy's leash and is on one knee pulling out a box. Oddly the first thing I do is put my foot on Paddy's leash as there are other dogs around and I don't want her running off. I'm glad I had my camera as we were able to get this photo of us.
Wedding: We got married 2 weeks ago today - boy how time flies. I had always wanted a small destination wedding. When we started talking about locations we realized it would be easier to have the wedding in Seattle. All of our family neede to travel anyways and I could still have the beach type wedding I wanted. We selected Ray's Boathouse as it is one of our favorite restaraunts and the view can't be beat. In the end we had 75 guests which is on the small side considering our immediate family totals 25.
It wasn't a very traditional wedding. We asked a friend to officiate the ceremony and we wrote most of it with her. Readings from Shel Silverstein and the Dalai Lama. No cake instead we had a donut truck for desert! I am very excited as our pro pictures should be getting blogged today.
What surprised me the most was the fact that I cried. I honestly didn't think I would. But as my dad is walking me down the aisle I got very emotional and started tearing up. This of course causes our officiant to cry and others as well. Luckily there were many comedic breaks during the ceremony.
Family I am the middle child. I have an older and a younger sister, we are very close and go on vacation regularly together. H is one of 5 children - the second to youngest. We have 8 neices and nephews. Unfortunately all of our family lives on the east cost, or midwest so we don't get to see them often.
Football H follows the Steelers and I prefer the Patriots. We both will support the Seahawks. H went to Iowa State University so he follows them as well. I'm not big into college football.
We never really travelled when I was growing up. I went to college about 90 minutes away from where I grew up. I didn't fly for the first time until I was in 9th grade. A few years after college I moved to Boston and that's when it happened. I realized there was so much more to the world than the small town I grew up in and I wanted to see as much of it as I could. Shortly after I moved to Boston my BF at the time & I took a spontaneous trip to Paris for the weekend and I never stopped travelling after that.
Do you have any plans to start TTC in the near-ish future?
No. We are looking to adopt in the near future. I wanted to be married for a few years before starting a family and given my age that wouldn't be easy. The plan at the moment is to adopt an older child in 2 years or so.
We had a short engagement. Enaged on December 17, 2011 and married August 3, 2012. We wanted a summer wedding and I didn't want a long engagement. Of course this was long compared to my sister that had a 3 month engagement.
Where you originally from WA? How about your H? How did you meet?
I grew up outside Syracuse, NY. I've been in Seattle for about 3 years.
H is from Iowa.
We were set up on a blind date. I joke that he was just supposed to be a summer fling. The friend that introduced us got ordained and officiated our cereemony.
