i gained 40 total. i gained most of the weight in the middle of pregnancy. i would say i was about where you are at 32 weeks, so i gained ~10 pounds in the last 8 or 9 weeks. i did not work out at all.
With DD2, I gained no weight between 33 and 41 weeks. How I accomplished this: a nightly regime of Costco cake or little debbies with a glass of whole milk. Occasional barfing. Eating whatever I wanted. It was a brief glimpse into having a fast metabolism. (I gained around 20-25 lbs total with her.)
With DD1, I gained 20-25 pounds up to that point, the gained another 15-20 the last 5-6. I swelled a lot with her, though, even though I was much more careful about what I ate.

I made the mistake at my 24 week appointment (I think) of asking how much weight I gained versus the first time and then cried the whole way home. Lol. Even though I gained hard and heavy through the beginning and middle, I only ended up gaining an extra 5 the second time around. Hang in there!

I think I can do this too!
I have confidence, you can do it!
I also ate McDonalds 5 times in one week and lost a pound. Aside from the discomfort of being pregnant, it was a spectacular run. LOL
I also gained 33 pounds total and I think only 5 lbs of that happened during 3rd tri. No idea how it happened and I was not working out (but on my feet all day at work).
I gained 35 total and only a few pounds was in the last trimester.
I am Convinced that my pregnancy weight had absolutely nothing to do with how I ate or exercised. At one point, I worked out and ate healthy and gained 5 lbs in a week. The next week I fell of the wagon and ate BWWs 3 days in a row and lost weight.
I worked out regularly until 36 weeks and ate mostly healthy throught pregnancy (Minus the BWWs incident). Until 40 weeks when I stopped caring about what I ate at all and ate ALL THE FOODS. lol
In the last 6 weeks with DD I gained 10 pounds and it was all WATER. Dead of summer. I looked like a swelled balloon. It was all gone instantly. Actual weight though I didn't gain more than a pound. I did most of that between weeks 20-30.
With my first DD and DS it was colder and I didn't have the water weight/swelling issues and I only gained like 2 pounds in the last 10 weeks with them. It was all between weeks 20-30 too.
IIRC, I gained about 20 lbs by 20 wks, got up to 33 lbs around 36 wks, and lost 3 lbs in the last 3-4 wks for a net gain of 30 lbs. I walked a ton my entire pregnancy and ate whatever I wanted (within reason). My goal was to gain 30 but I really thought I would gain 35 there for awhile.
With DD I actually lost a little right at the end, but my net gain was 33. I had gained 20lb by 20 weeks, and then it tapered at the end. It was February, so no swelling.
With DS it was July, and my feet swelled up a LOT at the end. I gained like 45lbs and stopped paying attention to it.
I gained most of my weight between 14 and 34 weeks after that point it was hard to eat much because there just wasn't room. I didn't gain much the last 6ish weeks because it was just hard to eat, I made myself but not being very hungry meant I ate pretty well and reasonably.
I had gained like 23 pounds at 33w and didn't gain any more before delivering at 40w2d. This may have had something to do with breaking my ankle, but also I didn't have much appetite at that point.

Thank you so much for this. I'm 37 weeks and gained 7 pounds between my 34 and 36 week appointment even though I'm walking like 8-10 miles a week and eating decently. It completely bummed me out, because if it keeps up I will gain like 45 pounds, and I didn't have anything like this with DD. BUT, DD was a winter baby! So you have given me the hope to hold on to that maybe this is all water weight and it will magically all fall off when I deliver.

I tend to gain a lot in the first 12 weeks, when I'm snacking to stave off morning sickness. The again between weeks 20-29. I've gained less than 5 lbs between weeks 30-39 with my last 2 babies, and I can already see it is tapering off again this time.
My stomach is so constricted in the 3rd-tri, I don't have much appetite. Plus, I have so many food aversions during pregnancy, by that point I'm typically burnt out on the few items that sounded good to me.

There is hope! For me it definitely was. I was just so miserable and uncomfortable and just had this weird overfull feeling all the way to my toes. It was all gone like hours after I gave birth. It was just a different feeling entirely than actual weight gone.
And those people who said stay on your feet and be active and you won't have water weight are dirty liars. I was busy.
I gained pretty much a pound a week the whole time for a total of 39 weeks. I also worked out all the way to the end so that clearly didn't stop any weight gain. I feel like I'm on track for the same this time as Im already up 8 lbs at almost 11 weeks. I didn't realize it til after but a lot was water and swelling I hadn't even noticed

I only gained one pound the last trimester, but I was diagnosed with GD and the GD diet really halted my weight gain.
I think it varies so much from person to person (and even pregnancy to pregnancy) that you may not gain much at the end, but even if you do, 40 pounds is very normal weight gain!
