Over the weekend, I did a random image search on google to find a car picture the H might like for his new phone's lock screen to replace the default generic pic. Sent him one that looked sharp and looked like the same car he has, and figured he could take a real picture of his car to use if he wanted to replace it later.
Not only did he like the picture and uploaded it for his wallpaper, but he kept swearing that it actually WAS his car. The license plate is easily shown and he checked and it matches his car, down to the charm he has hanging on his rearview mirror and small paint bubble in the rear fender. We tracked down the photographer who transposed the backgrounds, and requested that they blur out the license plate #, but had to make the same request to the website that had this particular picture online. I guess the original photo was taken by the photographer at a car show or race track years ago, we found their website that had his and a bunch of other muscle car photos in the same gallery.
How funny and coincidental is that!? The website did respond today that they will remove the license plate from the picture and take down the previous photo. I told the H that maybe his car is just Google famous now and there might be other people with his car picture for their wallpaper out there in the world. I really didn't think anything of it when I sent the wallpaper photo to him, but I still can't believe out of all the images in my first search that I pinpointed his exact car without knowing it.

Yeah, I'm not even really a "car person" to the point that I would have noticed any of the details. I told H that he should be proud of me that I can (unintentionally) pick out the right one in a sea of mustangs of the same year & color.
I helped him with the emails because he didn't want to sound like a dick about it. Something along the lines of: I appreciate the recognition and admiration of the car photos, but as the owner I would just prefer privacy from having my license plate readily searchable online.
I probably couldn't even pick out my own car in a lot that was filled the same color & models as mine, lol.
