Friday has come around again. It seems to be happening more and more frequently, but maybe that's just me.
So what are you reading this week?
QOTW: Do you prefer a particular style of pen/pencil? (If you're buying pens/pencils for yourself, will you pick out a particular kind or will you go with whatever is most economical?)
I am slogging my way through Heir of Fire. I don't know what my deal is but I'm just not enjoying it. The first two books were great but this one has me struggling. Almost done though and then on to The Royal We.
I'm reading Under the Dome, but I'm not super into it. Only at 10%. I just got a notification that "At The Water's Edge" is available from overdrive so I might start that instead.
I love blue papermate pens, they're cheap which is great and I have about 5 in my purse at a time.
I'm reading the Paying Guests by Sarah Waters. It's okay. All of her books are slow because they are very deliberate and sort of atmospheric. The prose is pretty good, they just tend to drag.
QOTW: I like pens with more of a ink flow than the typical bic. I know it when I see it!
Deadly Interest, by Julie Hyzy. It's interesting and breezy (yay!) but I'm put off by some of the sexism of the male characters. I think it's just there to show they are a little less than pleasant but it's a annoying because obnoxiously calling a grown woman "little girl" isn't merely unpleasant. Also, I really need authors to stop using dead batteries on cell phones as a plot device.
QOTD: I don't like pencils, period, and will take nearly any pen over a pencil. That said, I frequently find that the pens you find in hotel rooms are my favorites because the ink flow is smooth. Go figure. LOL
My Sunshine Away by M.O. Walsh. It is ok..I'm having a hard time getting into it.
I rarely use pencils. At work, I prefer Gel Pens--0.7. I also like to write my to-do list in a different color every day, and notes from each meeting in a different color (I just use 1 notepad), so I have a huge pack
I liked The Paying Guests msmerymac so I'm interested to see what you think about it. It does take a while to pick up.
I'm reading Descent by Tim Johnston. I haven't figured out how I feel about it yet. My mom loved it, so I am sticking with it.
I just finished In The Unlikely Event last week. I enjoyed it. It wasn't great, but it was nice. I just bought Are You There God, It's Me Margaret for my daughter's birthday, and since I was in a Judy Blume mood, I re-read that the other night as well. It was fun to revisit that book and see how much I didn't remember.
I put a bunch of ebooks on hold at the Philly library, so when I'm done with my current book, I'll have to decide if I'm feeling patient or if I am just going to buy the book myself. I might buy Invasion of the Tearling, because I can't resist the instant gratification when it comes to YA series. But I might be more patient when it comes to the new Kate Atkinson book.
As far as pencils and pens, I don't have any preference. I usually just grab whatever is in reach. Although as a left handed person, I hate erasable pens (do they even make those anymore?)

I just finished Love You More by Tessa Leoni, it was a quick, light, breezy read
I am still working on Dragonfly in Amber. I just can not seem to get through it
I am also listening to TONS of podcasts! Kind of my latest addiction
QOTD: I am picky with my pens and pencils! As a teacher I have my preferences, but they are odd ones, Like random ones I receivedfrom banks, etc LOL However, pencils, I LOVE LOVE LOVE mechanical pencils!
Those Girls by Chevy Stevens I also picked up a new Marian Keyes book from the library. the Woman who Stole my Life. I haven't read one of her books in a while.

I finished Neil Patrick Harris: Choose Your Own Autobiography and Mama's Bank Account on Thursday and Friday, so I'm trying to decide what to read next. I stalled out with Sidney Chambers and the Shadow of Death, so I'm not sure I want to go back to it or if I want to find something completely new. I have Aasif Mandvi's No Land's Man and a couple of light, fluffy mysteries that are calling me more that Sidney Chambers right now, so it might just be one of them.
QOTW: I'm not too picky, though like others I prefer mechanical pencils, .7 lead. I tired .5 lead, but I kept breaking it off all the time. For pens, I'm perfectly content with bog standard Bic or PaperMate ballpoints. I hadn't noticed it before, but IIOY is right, hotel room pens always seem to work better. That could be why I have a huge collection of them all over the place. I remember distinctly when my boss swiped the really good DoubleTree Hotel pen I kept for use on my desk. I searched all over his office for days trying to find it. If I'm going to write letters, in my journal, or work on my never-completed novel, I'll pull out my fountain pen and use it.
I'm still working through Bad Feminist, and also picked up The Fiery Cross for a re-read.
I like sharp regular pencils or a mechanical pencil that isn't too thin. I'm really loving the pilot g-2 pens lately. It seems the ones where you can see the ink are ones I lean towards, as long as they aren't too fine a point and scratchy.

I just finished In The Heart of the Sea and it was pretty boring. I started The Fiery Heart by Richelle Mead. It is very refreshing after slugging through ITHOTS.
I like regular pencils and I like writing in pencil over pen. I like pens that you can see the ink and I have an obsession with using all the ink in a pen before moving on to a new pen.

I've been on vacation the last week, and not the kind of vacation where you sit on beach chairs and read books, so I've got nothing new.
QOTD: I'm sure I had opinions about pencils and pens when I was in school, but I really don't now. Except I hate those ultra-fine point pens that makes a scratchy noise on the paper. Like nails on a chalkboard.
I liked The Paying Guests msmerymac so I'm interested to see what you think about it. It does take a while to pick up.
Have you read other Sarah Waters books? The Paying Guests was ok, but not as interesting or as surprising as her other novels imo. It was ok, i didn't feel like my time was wasted reading it because I do like her writing, but it was definitely not my favorite.

I haven't read any of her other books. Any you would recommend? I think I might have The Little Stranger somewhere.

I LOVED Fingersmith. It might partly be that it was her first novel I read so I had no idea what to expect but I loved all the twists and turns in the plot.
I liked The Little Stranger ok. All I remember is that it's more of a creepy ghost story and there are no lesbians, lol. I feel like I was somewhat unsatisfied by the ending but maybe not. Can't remember.

The Little Stranger was good - kind of gothic - but also a bit slow for me. The Night Watch was pretty good. Fingersmith was good, but also a little slow. Victorian, though.
