I think that is fantastic for horses. My horse hated the trailer. Flying would have been disastrous. I'm wondering if there was pressure for this from high paying costumers.
Moral to the story: people with pawdicured pups are not to be trusted!
From the sniff hotel: PAWDICURE (Pick any two) Nail trim, nail polish, pad trim or moisturizing paw rub.
And my personal favorite: PENTHOUSE $75
70 square feet natural light with city views individual climate control premium bed with luxury bedding flat screen TV featuring DOGTV content private webcam soft-padded floors that are easy on paws free daycare (or) two group-play sessions complimentary bubble bath potty breaks
And this: City Walk $12 Your pup will enjoy a walk with a Sniff team member around our beautiful neighborhood. They'll experience sights, sounds and plenty of smells while getting great exercise.
WAIT a minute - individual climate control?? So, the dog can change the thermostat? Or wait, no, the dog tells the staff "I'm feeling chilly, please raise the temperature"?
Animals will be charged fees — still being determined depending on services — that will help fund the facility.
Fwiw Id bet big money that the vast majority of the facility is dedicated to large animals. $ wise i mean. Horses and livestock. People ship really expensive horses all over the world for competitions on a regular basis. And then they have to be held for several days upon arrival. They need a facility for that and its not going to be small.
The footprint for the dogs is probably tiny in comparison.
Places like this scream infectious disease incubator to me. Can't wait to see what stains of recombinant flu emerge. I am a buzz kill.
How is this worse than whatever quarantine facility they're currently using? Harder to sanitize I guess with thr flat screens and so forth...
Well in a standard transport kennel, animals never really cross paths. Separate kennels, concrete or stainless cages are more amenable to cleaning. Adding swimming lessons and play groups opens the door to many issues. Fighting, and diseases that are spread by direct contact and fomites are things that come to mind. I like the idea of doing something for the animals don't get me wrong but this is doing something for their owners, not them. Animals don't care about flat screen TVS and mani/pedis. I'd rather seem them hire a ton of quality staff, keep some open fence spaced and invest in amazing cleaning and ventilation equipment, that would be doing something for the animals.

I'm just wondering if some of that 48 million could go to something else. Not that I don't like animals but this is over the top if it could be scaled down and funds shifted somehow. It's reminding me of John Oliver's rant on stadiums

That all makes sense. I guess I was assuming that of 48million a dog wading pool was a drop in the bucket so maybe all that other stuff was actually happening? Doesn't make for a goos article though.
I'm curious how the play area works though. these dogs are only there long enough for quarentine right? Doesn't like you can allow a dog that just got there to play with a dog about to be released. So what's the point?
