niq, I do have kids. They are both school-aged (YAY!), so good public schools are important.
al320, my H grew up about 45 minutes from Santa Barbara, and we say that we are going to retire there - if CA doesn't run out of water in the next 20 years. We will have to eat cat food, but we won't be sweaty!
And he left?!?! Lol
LOL, seriously. I count on him to be smarter than that.
Don't move to the Pacific Northwest- come to California. We just have regular fault lines, no subduction zones here. northern CA (like north of SF) is not too terrible in terms of COL

Or you could come live in the CA foothills with meeeeeeeee. (I mean, not in my house ... maybe in my neighborhood/area. LOL) Houses here are much more affordable than the bay area, and it's only 100+ for like ... 20 days a year. Plus, we get MONTHS with no rain. Or years, lately, but that's neither here nor there.
I'm a nice person, and R isn't so bad either. PLUS we could swim together! And you could run with Mushe!
Northern England - move here. Even in 'summer' it's about 18 degrees (mid 60s), and winters aren't cold. This means you can run ALL year. And you have Europe for fun weekends if you want a bit of sun.
