Yay for your great interview! I've heard nada from either of the interviews I had in June, nor anything from the other applications I've since submitted. The recruiter from June Job #1 didn't respond to my last follow up, either
I did have a good, frank conversation with my boss at my review before I went out of town, and we have a follow up conversation tomorrow. I don't think anything will change significantly, but it's all on the table (from both sides, and I got some very encouraging feedback that very needed) and I am feeling better about where I'm at right now. I'm still looking, though

I need to work on my resume this week so I can actually start applying to jobs soon.
I can't really leave my job until October 15th due to tax deadlines. I'm relocating down to NC and probably going to look at corporate accounting jobs. DH will be down there in 2 weeks so I sort of want to start applying but not sure the time frame for applying for jobs. I was thinking of holding off until Labor Day unless a good state/university job comes up since those take longer. Any ideas on when to really start applying?
I have an interview tomorrow. After some emails that flew around today, I really need out. Just for new challenges. I am so so so bored. And when I'm not bored, I'm frustrated.
Can I join in? I'm slowly making the transition from SAHM to fully leaned in. I'm working part time now and was just accepted into a post-bacc in accounting program so that I can qualify to sit for the CPA exam. It's a long term plan though.

I still haven't heard anything. My last interview was 5 or so weeks ago. The listing got taken down, so I'm pretty sure it's been filled and they just haven't sent out rejections yet. I still haven't heard back from the transfer I applied to a month ago.

Good luck! I'm taking the CPA exam now and it is no fun!

My coworker is leaving, and it sounds like I'm approved for as many extra hours as I want (20 max). I'm still not sure what duties I'll be taking over, but I know all website updates and potentially physician boarding. Plus my boss said he will be extremely flexible with however I need to arrange my schedule to fit my life.

I just heard from the recruiter... I didn't get June Job #1 . She didn't have any specific feedback on why not, but said I was a finalist and they were very impressed with my credentials.
1. I got confirmation that my application for appointment has been received and will be reviewed. At least it didn't go straight into the trash.
2. The job in a neighboring county finally posted, and I'm not qualified. Plus the benefits are worse than what I have now. So that's off the table.
3. A dream job just got posted in another neighboring county. The problem thigh is that they ask whether you'd be willing to be assigned anywhere in the county, and I really can't --- one of the potential locations is a 2 hour 40 minute drive one way. So do I answer honestly and apply, knowing my answer will likely eliminate me from actual consideration? Or do I play the game, give them the answer they want, and cross that bridge if I get there?

This is tricky. Once you get assigned, you don't really move around to other locations, right? If that's true, I think you have to honest because that's a clear deal breaker for you.
It depends, and I don't know what they're looking for. You could either be assigned somewhere, and then stay there for a few years. Or you can be assigned as-needed to various locations around the county week-to-week or day-to-day. I've seen both. A one-off out there might be doable, but a more permanent assignment wouldn't be. And the online application only has checkboxes for 'yes' & 'no', no space for explanation. Argh.
Can I join? I posted a few months ago about going to grad school, but have decided to look for a full-time job instead. I've been a SAHM for the past 5 years and didn't get much experience in my field before I left. I had my first phone interview on Thursday for an entry-level position with lots of room to grow. Haven't heard back yet, but I'm hoping I hear something soon. I would love this job, but I'm not too confident only because it was the first interview I've had in years. Question about following up - the interview was with 3 people: the hiring manager/direct supervisor, the head of the department, and the head of another department that sort of overlaps. I haven't been in contact with HR except to schedule this interview. With whom do I follow up? At the end of the interview, they said HR would be contacting me shortly (but no definite timeline).
I got my first nibble in NYC after two months of applying. Had a 10 min phone call with HR for a position I'm not qualified for. However, he forwarded my application to a sister campus and I'm now "under review" for that position. So better off to than I was yesterday!
I had my annual review with my boss today. At the last minute. With basically 0 warning. That's annoying. It was good and I'd seen all the comments in advance so nothing was a surprise.

I have no positive updates. No word back from the recruiter on the cross country position I was very excited about. Another recruiter in a new industry who promised details on current positions has yet to get back to me.
Feeling discouraged. Maybe people just need more time but it's hard when they say they will be in touch but then they don't follow through.
I had my interview for the internal position. It felt really weird, and unlike any interview I've had, but I've never done an internal interview before. We skipped all the tell me about yourself and here's the background on the position and organization. I just answered the questions and most of my answers had to do with work that they all already knew about. It was a really brief interview. My boss did say there was no way that I wouldn't get this, so that's good.
Well, I just finished my interview. I don't think I did that well. They started with a list of questions (that they handed me), and at the end I was able to ask questions, such as "aside from the job posting, what is this position about you?" So, you know, I could pick examples that relate to what they want. Which threw off my mojo. Ah well.

I think in the next couple weeks. I was surprised how quickly a friend of ours was hired at an accounting firm--he received an offer after the first interview! But he mentioned that his process with a Fortune 500 was quite a bit longer, which I think is the the norm for large companies. If you start applying once your H moves, you'll have a local address to use, so they probably will at least call to see why your current role isn't local if they're interested. I think a really smooth application process goes like this: submit resume, get a call in a week, schedule a phone interview for the following week, get a call back for an in person the next week, show up for in person the next week, get an offer the next week, be asked to start in 3-4 weeks. So even in the best situations, I assume 8-9 weeks from resume submission to start date.
Sorry, rubytue, I hope it went better than you think. I don't even understand that question.
sfy - ha! Sorry. That was typing on the metro. Government job posting are notoriously obscure. It was the tell me in your own words what the position you are filling is supposed to do. Versus this:
Eta: but they didn't lead off with anything at all about the position. Nothing about their group, their office, this position. Nothing! I've never interviewed when the panel didn't at least give *some* background before launching into questions.
I took a break from job hunting for a while because I've been overwhelmed by life.
As background, I work part time. I took my current job because it's convenient, in my field, and pays well, but it is a very, very junior position compared to... every other job I've ever had.
I applied for a couple jobs through a recruiter yesterday, but when they called today the girl told me that she could not recommend me because they are freelance (not guaranteed) positions, and she can't ethically recommend that I leave my current job for these types of roles.
I hate my job so much. I feel like the longer I am there, the more I'm hurting my chances of ever returning to a higher level position.
I came home tonight and applied for a full time position that is very local to me and sounds really interesting.
I'm not completely sure I want to go back to full time, but I have to get out of my current job soon before my bad attitude becomes too evident.
Can I join in? I respond to a few posts but I am generally a lurky loo on this board.
I am starting a new role next week with the same company. It's a lateral move but I will be gaining some great experience that will help me in the future. Should be more flexible with working from home a few days a week though.
I heard back today from 2 higher ed jobs I applied to both rejections. I never got to the interview stage, so I can't even ask for feedback. I have three weeks to get it together before I have to go back to my teaching job, from which more responsibilities were just stripped. Yay.
You've probably already done this, but in case not is there anyone in your field who can take a look at your resume and provide some feedback? Maybe there's a different perspective that set of eyes could provide.
I have, and didn't get much criticism. I made some layout changes, but I think the underlying issue is that the available jobs are just one step too far above my qualifications. I'm considering looking at "step back" positions in hopes of gaining the experience they want in higher ed before applying for these jobs again.
I'm also looking at corporate training, and researching some certificate programs to add to my skills. Unfortunately, it looks like I will have to go back to my teaching job. I am trying to be MM about it - since we took my paycheck out of our budget, once I start receiving a paycheck again, I am going to use that money to add to savings and get some home improvement projects done. Silver lining
