front yard? We clean up after our dog each time she poops, so we know it's not her. We haven't seen the pooper in the act, but it's almost bigger than our dog, so we know it's not her. I can barely pick up after my own dog without gagging, so I will not be ok cleaning up after someone else's dog. Besides stalking my front yard to find out who it is, any friendly suggestions for getting it to stop? We don't know who it is and we just moved into the neighborhood, so we'd like to not alienate our neighbors. We'd also like for our sod to not die because this issue either.
I would put up a sign. And then watch. H caught someone letting their dog poop in our yard, watched the person walk away without picking it up, asked the person if they had a bag to get it and when the person said no, he practically went off on him. It is so fucking disrespectful. My kids play in that grass asshole.

You can put up one of those "no pooping" signs, but I don't know that that will dissuade them. Your best bet is to try and catch them in the act and then holler out to them if they need a bag to pick that up. I know it may be hard to catch them since you have no idea when they're coming through, but that will probably be most effective.

I was considering the sign idea. I may do that. We think it's the kids down the street who have a large breed puppy. It's the only dog that size we see going past our house where the owner doesn't have a bag of some sort in their hands.

Depending on how nice you want to be, you could put a sign that just says "Please pick up after your dog" with a container of bags. We have some tweens that used to walk their dog and not pick up after him. One time I was home and saw them so I opened the door and said "Do you need a bag?". She looked a bit stunned, but nodded so I brought one out to her. Haven't had a problem with that particular dog since.
I have this in my front yard lol I know it's tacky, but it looks just like my Westie and I couldn't resist. It's only like 6 inches tall and hardly noticeable though!

Our neighbor is an ass and always lets his dog roam around outside without watching him. Luckily it is a friendly dog or there'd be more than a poop issue. But we were sick of poops the size of our dog showing up on our lawn. DH got a DropCam and set it up in our front window. We caught the dog in the act, printed out the screen shot and put it with the local city ordinance and stuck it to their windshield. It didn't happen again for a long time - until last week when the roommate was watching the dog. This time, we did the same printouts and said if the poop was still there when we woke up in the morning, we'd call the police to have them handle it. Poop was gone pretty quick.
But we don't like the particular neighbor - no one on our block does because he is such a prick - so we weren't worried about alienating him. We just wanted the poop gone.
Since you think you know who it is, I don't get why you don't just watch for them when you see them walking and ask them to pick it up.
If you don't want to alienate the neighbors, airing it on FB for all to read doesn't seem like the best first approach. The only reason I would put it on FB is if you think the parents don't know and would make them start cleaning it up, since they're the ones who are reading the FB page, not the kids. But since the parents obviously don't see them return home with bags of poop, my guess is that they know and don't care, and I wouldn't expect an FB post to change that.
Would it be too much to put something nicely worded on the neighborhood FB page?
I would put a sign in the yard where I know it would be seen instead.
You don't know the offenders would even see it on a FB page, and it isn't really a "neighborhood" issue.
Every loud ass person on my neighborhood facebook page disagrees with this. LOL
I agree with everyone else this isn't going to stop until you catch whoever it is in the act. People suck, I gag and hate picking up my dog's shit too but you know I got a dog so I am responsible.
Also, funny side note my husband picked up bear shit in our neighbor's yard this weekend. Our dog got out and went for a run like a crazy dog on a mission. DH saw him shitting so went and got a bag to clean it up. Then he was looking around and saw "weird poop" and picked it up just to be safe (neighbors don't have and don't like dogs). Later that day the neighbor is talking to me about how there was bear crap in their yard the day before (right where DH picked it up) and to be on the lookout. LOL
This is one of my biggest pet peeves. I would try to catch the person in the act, as I think that would be most effective. People only do this when no one is around to catch them being assholes.

Because I don't know for sure who it is, and I don't know when it's happening. It also isn't happening consistently.
I'm just going to get a sign and keep an eye out for the offender to offer them a bag as mentioned here. If it kids letting their dog poop all over, I might talk to their parents.
This worked really well for some of our neighbors. I don't think the sprinklers work anymore, but our dog never poops on that lawn. (We always picked up his poop, but we have many neighbors who let their dogs run free. Not to mention the million neighborhood cats making every patch of dirt a litter box.)

That's happened to us a few times. Once, my husband yelled out to the lady and asked if she was going to clean it up. Sometimes people let their little dogs way too far up our lawn, so I let our big Rottweiler out. She likes chasing things that look like squirrels. Hehehe. (Don't worry - she has to go down a flight of stairs on our deck before she's anywhere near the little dog - the owners are smart enough to get their dog back before anything happens).

Uhhhh that's kind of fucked up and perpetuates breed stereotypes.

That they love to play? yeah.
Right. Because that is how your post read. "Hey I let my big dog chase little dogs off my property, but no worries, the owners have time to scoop them up before she gets to them."

They don't scoop them up, they walk away with them and GTFO my lawn. They should not be on my property and letting their dogs shit on it.
