My uncle qualified for Kona yesterday at Lake Placid!
It was 10 mins off his PR, but it was enough! I am so pumped for him, and only my friends here will understand
He very casually coached me from sprint to ironman, and it has been such a fun thing for us to do "together" - I'm overjoyed. He figured this would be his last full unless he qualified.
53 years old. Awesome.
I feel like I set these arbitrary limits for myself. Like, in my mind I only have a few years to get faster, but really, that's absurd. I can look around and see that I have tons of room for growth, especially as my kids get a little older. It's exciting to imagine!

That's great! And yes, you're not washed up yet--don't be so hard on yourself!! You have a new baby at home, you still have plenty of time to be bad ass too!
Awesome! We have so many runners in my group that are tearing it up in Masters and Grand Masters. It's so inspiring! I know the guy who took 2nd in your uncle's AG. Super cool. I knew he ran fast, but apparently he does other stuff fast too. I'm always in awe of triathletes, no matter the speed.
Awesome!! Big congrats. Sometimes I also feel like I'm running out of time to get faster, but you're so right that it's not true. We can all keep going after it, whatever 'it' may be.

It is amazing! I hope I can take care of my body well enough to keep performing how I want to perform for a log time.
And how funny! I'm still amazed by every single ironman finish, but to do it SO WELL is just remarkable. Especially when so many things can go wrong in a long day like that. Just very cool.

I think we are about the same age (I just turned 29), and I am wondering if it's maybe just that passage of time right now that is a little scary -- I think every decade probably has a bit of that?
But, it's ridiculous for me because most of the people who are kicking my butt are older than I am!
Amazing and inspiring! Every now and then I have minor freak outs about running out of time (I'll be 35 next week). This is a great reminder that it's possible to perform at a high level for years. Thanks for sharing!!
