Oh wow. I'm not sure I'd vaguebook about something like that, but I would be absolutely devastated to know that someone I trusted to use as a reference said something so negative that I lost a job because of it.

Yikes. But at least she now knows that she needs some new references.
Anecdote - a friend's mom was a teacher and growing she applied for several different jobs and got far in the process, but never got the actual job. After YEARS of this happening, someone finally told her that she should probably select a new reference b/c one of her references was not providing positive feedback about her.
