We fenced them in this morning. I'm sick of their shit all over the yard and, most importantly, my porch. Guys. They have 5,200 square feet. That's the size of our first lot. And you know what? They are all huddled up against the fence wanting to get out.
These are your own chickens? I have the same problem with my neighbor's chickens. They let them roam all over our yard and I am sick of it. They built a coop and a fenced in an area about the size of a bedroom. But they won't keep them fenced in. Every day they are on our yard. Grrr.
Lol. My aunt said that cows will walk along fence line for MILES just to try and find a way to get out. Grass is greener and all that.
Our backyard is probably 1.5 acres and they kept walking into the neighbors yard and under the gate into the front yard. and then they can't figure out how to get back.
And cows wouldn't have to walk so far I'd they'd man up and cross the painted lines on the fake cattle guards.

house, yes, these are ours. What kind of fence of you do you have where they are getting through?
We don't have any fence between us and the neighbors. and putting up a fence is not in the budget for at least 2 yrs. I hope the neighbors give up growing chickens before that.. lol.

This sounds like an opportune time to tell them you're adopting a very large dog, and would hate for one of their precious chickens to get eaten.
The adoption can "fall through" after they build a fence.
Lol.. we do have a large dog and he sure chased after the chickens and tried to eat one but couldn't catch it. So I asked my neighbors if they had a schedule or certain times they let them out so I could try to avoid that situation. Nope, no schedule. Um, she blew me off saying it's just a chicken, not their pet.

Wait, so she doesn't care if your dog chases the chickens? I say let him at it, then! Happy, exercised dog and less chicken shit in your yard.
and ETA since I feel like an evil person, I'd feel differently if they made an actual effort to keep their chickens in their own yard rather than letting them run through yours.

house, are they aware that dogs can kill chickens (see, the story of Lonesome Dove, thchicken who liked to hop the fence)? Because they sound like the type of assholes who will say they are not pets UNTIL your dog catches one and then "hoooow could you do this to my precious little pet?!?!?" This sounds lose lose for you

Omg she is crazy and irresponsible.
My 18 lb white fluffy would love living at your house though. Here he is trying to get to MIL's chickens (no chickens were hurt, just Kona's pride):
I know that I should care that you chickens aren't "free range" and all but considering they have 4x the living space that I do, I just can't feel bad for them!

This is what I am afraid of. But DH just told me yesterday that they are slaughtering some of them and will be giving us one to eat.
They raise them for eggs. So far we have received one dozen eggs since they started raising them last year. I was worried about the stink last yr but they were keeping up with cleaning but now that they got more chickens I can smell them soon as I am outside my door.
Oh & I need to weed the front of the house which I already hate.. now add on the stink on top of it. Blergh...
hamster how tall is your fence? It looks like they could easily fly over the fence. They do know how to fly.. we had chickens growing up and I have seen a few fly over 8 ft tall fence.
And chickens can be spoiled bitches for real. We had a black one that was too snooty to lay eggs in the common area. She would find a way to get inside the house and lay eggs in my bedroom behind the door. Luckily we had mosaic tile floor through out the house so cleaning up her shit was easy.
