I always feel like there's an aftertaste of Lysol. It's weird b/c the Puerto Rican women drink scotch, a lot. I've tried it with coconut water, that's what they mix it with a lot. It's better than straight up, but nothing I love.
Scotch kind of tastes like I imagine melted plastic would. lol. I do like a couple of brands - Balvenie is okay, and I had a Jura once that I liked (but I was already pretty buzzed when I tried it). I hate stuff like Lagavulin and Laphroaig. H was really into scotch for awhile so I've tried a lot of the more widely-available stuff.
I love Laphroaig and Macallan, and Glenlivet. I miss the days when half a drink didn't give me a migraine.
I fucking love cigarettes but quit smoking years ago. I think about them all the time, and view smokers with envy. If I live to be 90 I am starting again.

I like bourbon though I definitely can't drink it neat. I like it with a little ginger ale or if it is really good bourbon just over ice. Also, I miss cigarettes so much that I know that having one is a terrible idea.
They all just pour it in a glass, no ice and drink it like it tastes good! LIARS
I actually think it's better without the ice. The flavor completely changes when it gets cold. I love the warm feeling you get when you drink it neat. I definitively didn't always like it, though. I really love bourbon. Woodford Reserve is fantastic. What about Old Fashions? I love those!
ETA: Never mind, I see Old Fashions have been covered. LOL

It is so gross. I only like red wine. White when I'm feeling like I want a baby shower buzz. Cigs are pretty good, but they have to be Marlboro Lights. I haven't smoked in ages, but I LIKED IT. It's terrible.

A great aged scotch on the rocks for me thanks, although I have encountered some ok whiskeys I like
Don't start smoking though. It's a nasty gross addictive expensive habit (says the smoker)
When DH an and I were on our honey moon he ordered Manhattan or maybe it was an old fashioned I can't remember. (I believe they are both whisky based drinks, it was because of mad men.) I finished it for him because he didn't like it.

All scotch is whiskey but not all whiskey is scotch. lol

You're right. I like whisky of the non scotch variety, particularly bourbon.
I only know thanks to my scotch loving H. It used to confuse me until I realized it's much like all pinot is wine but not all wine is pinot.
I don't drink much bourbon, but I don't hate it. I just have to avoid bourbon that puts the wort back in because then it's no longer gluten free and may make me sick. Scotch is a much better bet for me personally, lol.
mofongo - drinking scotch over ice will stifle the nose. If anything add one drop of (room temperature) water. Whiskey is strong and definitely has a burning sensation and like certain things, it's an acquired taste for many. So you're not alone.
I like whiskey, but I really love rye and bourbon specifically. I have no taste whatsoever for scotch. I also agree that they all taste best neat if you just want to sip them.
I cannot stand cigarettes, but will take a puff off the odd cuban cigar if someone else is having one.
There are whiskeys that are more newbie friendly that have a vanilla or other taste. A personal favourite in our house for gifting is Spicebox, which is a really mellow whiskey. DH and I can polish off a bottle just sipping it straight.
