Has anyone's kid ever had a reaction to a vaccine a week later? DD got shots last Tuesday, and last night I noticed a big red, raised bump right where one of the shots was. I drew a line around it, and this morning it is bigger. I'm calling when the office opens in 45 minutes, but in the meantime - can that even happen? React a week after the fact?
I don't remember which vaccine it was but I was told once that a reaction would not occur until a week had passed. So it doesn't sound so crazy, but definitely check.
Mmr and varicella don't usually react for about a week...was it one of those?
Generally some redness at the site is not a big deal, even a week out (especially if it was a live virus).
If there's high fever or she's out of sorts or anything of course take her in...but it's not uncommon with the live vaccines for reactions to not show for a while.
Weird, no, not a week after. We had a big red lump once and had to do the circle-it-with-a-pen thing to see if it got bigger, but it went back down that night. Glad you've called, since it's getting bigger.
LO3 just had varicella, MMR and one other I can't recall. He had a knot under the skin for about ten days afterward. I called the nurse line and they said to massage it around and work it out, they said it was the medicine? I thought that was strange, but ur didn't seem to bother him.

I had no idea they could react a week afterward! She had a little lump for a few days right afterward, but the big red lump was new last night. And she says it hurts. We went in first thing this morning, and they said it is probably a reaction to the MMR vaccine, but there is a small chance it's an infection. We're just supposed to keep an eye on it for the next few days, and bring her back in if anything changes.

I think it was the mmr vaccine but the nurses told me ahead if time the injection site would likely get bigger and it did, for both kids.
