What kind of career are those shorts for? They aren't "walking" shorts by any means. They are inappropriate in a professional setting but Penney's shouldn't be listing them in their "career" section.
For the record, though, I am wearing flip flops with my otherwise work appropriate skirt today.
I always wear flip flops with work attire when I'm just sitting at my desk. I have about 10 pairs of shoes under my desk to change into for meetings or if the VP wants to see me. #flipflopsforlyfe
ETA: I'm currently wearing a shirt from JCP. I hope I'm not at this weight much longer but I did have to buy new clothes for my new size and JCP had really good deals.
Hey I'm not judging, I just didn't know JCP was even on young milllenials' radar for clothing.
I opened this expecting some lady had worn one of those tragic short suits, which I personally object to and think don't look very professional, but I'd be more sympathetic to an argument of a JCP worker buying one and thinking she could wear it to work. Esp if she worked in the career section, since a lot of retail stores like their workers to wear their clothes.
But it's not just the shorts - it's the shoes and the top, esp depending on the dress code. My mom worked retail at a nicer department store and they weren't even allowed to wear open toed shoes.
I mean. Are we talking about JCP or Ann Taylor? Are people honestly, honestly, surprised that JCP sells hooch wear as "career wear"?* This is the same company that sold girls t shirts that said "I hate math." Their standards are not highly regarded.
*i want to point out that the JCP website does not have a "career section" section under ladies. It has a suits and separates section. And when you pull it up it's all pretty much suits. You can type in "career wear" in the search bar and get some funky results but I chalk that up to some random IT algorithms more than anything.
Now I am confused, because I swear I clicked on a specific "career wear" section under women but now I can't find it.
ETA: yes here, this is the link that ESF had posted:

For some reason I always thought of jcp as an extra conservative store, relatively. I honestly associate it with mormans and their specific modest-dress requirements. I think they might have tailored to that market back in the 70s-80s before ordering specialty stuff could easily be done online? Probably, well obviously, not true these days but that's what I'm remembering from childhood and all the Mormons I grew up with.

They've done some major corporate overhauling trying to make it appeal to Millennials. Most of it has failed miserably, like their "no more discounts/sales" policy and their attempts to turn JCP into a hip coffeeshop-style gathering place.
Most people think of it as the place their mom bought them jeans in the 1980s so they do have an uphill battle here.

Let's not forgot the braids/pigtails. It really looks like she's going to the beach for the day.
I think she's confusing "feminist" with "entitled."

Goddammit, not one part of that outfit is work-appropriate. I feel like she already wanted to quit and had a chip on her shoulder and was looking for something to go off about.
Also, I fucking hate it when someone does something they know is provocative and then saying some shit like "YOU NEVER SAID I COULDNT!" Use your judgment, girl.
Also career shorts are not a thing. Unless you're like the person working in IT perusing the racks for pleated khaki Dad Shorts.
"This prick is asking for someone here to bring him to task Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him I'll pull the trigger on it, someone load the gun and cock it While we were all watching, he got Washington in his pocket."
you know, we wonder why young people don't know what's appropriate office wear... yet JCP (and I'm sure they're not alone in this) is MARKETING this stuff as career wear...
See, I feel like this should be the real story here. It's confusing when you're 21 and in college and interviewing for internships. I really struggled with understanding business casual, I thought everyone else was just old and not stylish <<<<-----silly millenial. I thought what the Limited and Express were peddaling as professional WAS what young, hip, sylish 21-year-olds like me wore to work. And then a senior manager called me out in front of everyone and said "Damnit, MFJ, come to work dressed like an adult" and I really honest to God had no clue. I wasn't wearing shorts or gauze shirts or anything but two other interns wore those stupid marketed as professional shorts (at least they were knee length).
I'll turn my fun-sucker off now, sorry. This girl is definitely mock-worthy but I really do hate the mismatch between marketing and accepted business attire.

I just bought these shorts from JCpenny and when I bought them they were labeled career wear ( although now when I googled them they are labeled stretch knit). I bought them for our vacation and hoped that marking them career wear would mean they had a longer inseam. They do fit nicer than the other shorts I bought and are a little longer but in no way appropriate for work. Worthington® Career Modern Print Shorts - Tall

I'm a JCP shopper b/c Worthington pants fit great on my hips. I haven't found another brand that fits as well in the same price point. Waiting for Loft to have 40+ of sales when I need pants is annoying. I loved when they got rid of sales and shopped there often, I've backed off lately though.

No I reject this. New York & company and JCrew always has lots of nice/trendy work appropriate stuff- Express has those Editor pants out year round. H&M has some really great blazers out right now.
Having said that, there IS a trend right now of pairing shorts with a blazer as a "formal" outfit. ::puke::

The editor pants are money but I've never found a shirt there that covers my boobs without a cami underneath.

Um, those are not much longer than some of the shorts I wear to work... as a career and a registered professional. I wouldn't wear them with that top or ever to client meetings, but I also don't think it's an in appropriate outfit for a salesperson at JCP.
Then again, I wore something like this yesterday - (yes, dark trouser jeans for a client meeting)
And today I have a loose shirt, cardigan, and a jean skirt with flare in the back like this (only mine is shorter and darker) and I am meeting clients after work today for a social gathering:
I just want to know what they did to her poor boobs to make sure they didn't show. It's more dramatic than just a small bust, it looks like they were taped in and down.
