We were supposed to attend a wedding in CO next month. Since neither of us had ever been we decided to stay past the wedding and explore. The wedding ended up getting called off last week. We have plan tickets/train tickets/post wedding hotels booked so we still plan to go. The issue is this the bride kindly booked our hotel for the 3 days we would be there for the wedding related things and those three days were pretty much planned out for us. Obviously she canceled the hotel and we no longer have anything to do related to a wedding so we have 3 free days in Denver that we need to plan.
Tell me what to do/where to stay/where to eat/etc.
The trip is occurring the last week of August, we will be flying into Denver on Friday morning, in Denver from Friday-Sunday then taking a train to and staying in Glenwood Springs for the last couple days of our trip.
Will you have a car? Where will you be staying in Denver?
We weren't planning on having a car but the more I research the more it looks like we will need one. I have no idea where we are staying. As I mentioned the bride had originally booked our hotel but when the wedding got canceled so did the reservations so now I am scrambling to find someplace to stay as well.
I'd scrap Denver and go to Rocky Mountain national Park. But I also like mountains more than cities. Not sure where the second part of your stay is or whether that may feel like too much outdoors to you.

We toured the US Mint when were in Denver a few years ago, I thought it was cool. Rocky Mountain National Park is really nice. We also enjoyed our time in Colorado Springs.
Well, what do you like to do? Are you someone who likes restaurants and microwbrews, or do you love the outdoors? We've got plenty to do here that could keep you occupied for a few days....
If you stay local, you can do a day trip up to Boulder. You can see Celestial Seasonings, you can do the 16th Street Mall, maybe hike a Flatiron from Chautaqua Park, check out NCAR (National Center for Atmospheric Research), and definitely find some good eats.
If you want to explore Denver, we have a great Art Museum, lots of good local restaurants and breweries....maybe the Rockies are playing while you are here? We have a great ballpark, and we also have some pretty cool local tours you can get on. Banjo Billy's comes to mind.
Or you can head South to Colorado Springs and stay at the Broadmoor -- check out USAFA, Garden of the Gods, if you are an aviation buff there are a ton of fabulous aviation museums within an hour of the Springs including one in Pueblo and a WWII museum at the CO Springs Airport.
Do you like hiking? Beer? If both, then you're set. Red Rocks for a day, and stay in downtown (LoDo or lower downtown is the neighborhood) and check out the 16th street mall, Falling Rocks Tap house, and whatever breweries appeal to you (Crooked Stave is a good one). If you feel like trying Rocky Mountain Oysters you can eat at the Buckhorn Exchange.
If you're willing to get a car I would spend one day in Boulder - hiking at Chautauqua, exploring pearl st, lunch/dinner at pizzeria locale. Then maybe a day exploring garden of the gods or the foothills around golden (red rocks). And a day in Denver just enjoying the weather and hopping from brewery to brewery.
