Henry is going into 3 rd grade and doesn't care at all. I haven't really noticed any peer pressure yet around clothes . Some might request something because others have it, but it's not in a bad way yet, if that makes sense.
My friend's daughter started K this past fall and came home asking why some kids are mean. Apparently some of the kids were picking on one of her friends because she always wore Frozen shirts(apparently they were her favorite). I am NOT looking forward to school cattiness.
Joshua is definitely showing some preference, but not necessarily in relation to other kids. He always asks his buddy if he likes his shirt and his buddy always says no, but his buddy is ornery in the morning.

I taught both third fourth and fifth. And I've noticed a difference between third and fourth. Third. It's obvious their parents had a good hand and choosing their first day of school clothes. By fourth grade I noticed that it looks like they must've chosen their own.
But pretty much all students come in with a new outfit on the first day. Even the ones that are lower income still have new clothes for the first day of school.

Not related to mean girl stuff, but I haven't been "allowed" to pick Adeline's clothes for a long time. Over a year. She will only wear pink and she will only wear dresses.

Holden's about to start 2nd, and I think she just likes what she likes, no peer pressure. And what she likes is the exact opposite of what I would choose. She likes purple, glitter, and animal print. God help me.
I've heard girls in the four year old class at C's school discussing favorite brands.
Carter has very strong opinions about what he wants to wear, but I don't think they're peer pressure based at all. He wants athletic wear all the time, which is so not my style preference, and needs accessories - belts, capes, ties, etc.
Lillian has an opinion about what she wears and I have to give her options. But like bigapple said I don't think its peer pressure related, or not totally. During boot season here there were lots of comments made about boots looking like so and so, or someone's mom wearing boots and she always had to have certain boots like her friends. The girls were boot obsessed.
Payne has zero preferences at the age of 6. However, he is male. Lol. I'm hoping uniforms will keep his peers relatively clueless and I can dress them how I want until middle school at least.
Jack is completely oblivious to brands or cool clothes at 7. He does like athletic shorts and it is basically all he wears especially in the summer. But the kid is pretty much in constant motion so I have no problem buying him comfy clothes.
Our 3rd grade girls (some 1st and 2nd) already HAVETOHAVE Lululemon headbands and Sperrys. They wear uniforms, so shoes and headbands are where it's at.
I think that is also going to be dependent on area and type of school the kids go to. I wish I could dress Anna still, she's had an opinion about clothing since she was a year old. There are several things each season that she just absolutely refuses to wear.

For me, it was 4th/5th. For W, he can choose anything in his wardrobe, but I buy his wardrobe. Luckily, his school has a pretty basic/preppy dress code from pre-k - 5th so I hope he just gets used to khakis and polos.
I can see 3rd grade caring. Even 2nd to a degree. Wanting to choose what you wear vs brands and stuff.
There became a point (1st grade, i think) where I stopped caring what he wore and just started letting him pick. I wanted him to be comfortable and happy -vs- looking cute. I still pick for church/big events but school isn't worth it anymore.
I know my nephews are I think 6 and 8? And they started this past school year (K and 2nd grade) asking to buy certain brands bc all the other kids were wearing them (mainly Under armor stuff) My niece is 5 and my SIL dresses her in boutique clothes like the MJ bell bottom type and she has started to hate it, she says she hates the crazy pants lol. I don't see too many kids wearing stuff like that around here so I told H I was wondering if kids were saying stuff to her....but that's just an assumption.
