When I graduated from college I had read David Bach's book Smart Couples Finish Rich. However, as poor newly employed teacher I couldn't really do much with the information besides pay my bills and cross my fingers shit never hit the fan.
Fast forward and I have worked my way up the payscale and made some smart decisions so that I can finally put some of his ideas to use. But looking at the publication dates, I am wondering if the information is still relevant today or if I should look into some updated books. Any thoughts/suggestions?
I have about 3 weeks before school starts so I'd like to be able to read and formulate a plan going into the new school year. Thanks in advance for any input.
I think the basic principles are still the same. I would read through it again and make sure you lay out your goals and put together a financial check-list for your household. There are probably things you will want to seek out further information on...ask here or Google.
DH and I recently listened to Bach's "Start Late, Finish Rich" on a road trip. It was still very relevant IMO except for the real estate pieces. You could tell the book was written before the downturn.
I don't remember all of the details of that book (I think I read it, but it was a long time ago), but I think the key principles of living below your means and saving are still relevant. We'd be happy to discuss more detailed items here if you have specific questions.
