Are people making a bigger deal out of that lion than out of the movie theater shooting in Lafayette? Because it sure seems like that to me, based on my Facebook feed.
Did any late night hosts shed public tears for those two murdered women?

I imagine you dropping your mic and walking off as you ask this.

I prefer fondant cakes over buttercream. Most buttercream is laid on so thick and its so sweet that its just gross. Fondant has a teeny layer of buttercream and then the fondant is chewy and marshmallowy. YUM!

Ha. It's not completely rhetorical, but the imbalance on my Facebook feed is insane.
I feel like Americans are officially desensitized to gun violence. But kill a lion and the world goes bananas.

Yeah they are. And Sam Dubose in Ohio. It is so horrific.

It seems that it is easier to find compassion toward an animal opposed to humans. We are all becoming desensitized toward human violence. But violence toward an animal?! The world blows up.
LOL, I had a bad dentist growing up. And I'm also convinced orthodontics isn't always as necessary as we are led to believe, so I just have a lot of distrust. THAT BEING SAID, I really like my dentist now and if I would've had him growing up, I'd probably LOVE dentists. I also love the dentist I took Edie to!

And here I thought that creamsiclechica would be falling asleep reading post after post about crocs and flip flops again. lol
Way to call it like it is Dorothy Zbornak. I, of course, really hate seeing animals die for sport and that guy is a huge waste of oxygen. But yeah, Americans are so desensitized to gun violence. And if one more fucking person on my FB posts an article about mental health as the all incompassing excuse for gun violence, I'm moving to Germany.

H's cousin posted a link to an article about how atrocious it is that we are up in arms about the lion yet so many babies are being aborted and no one seems to care.
He then linked the video that was circulating about PP selling tissue. Twice. Once on his own and then again after someone posted the fact checker article nullifying it.
I need to block him and his ridiculousness. Anti Muslim anti Arab posts along with very strong Catholic links but also pictures of women in provacative poses and gross objectifying posts.

Yikes. He seems like everything I dislike all rolled into one. Definitely block him.
I do think we're desensitized to gun violence in this country. It's nothing new. If we can't get stronger gun laws after Sandy Hook, no other shooting is going to shock us.
Close family members are big game/trophy hunters. When the Cecil news first broke I had to check to make sure they weren't in Africa...they go to Zimbabwe every year, get permits, and shoot lions or elephants or whatever. It could totally have been them.
My UO is that while I am horrified by trophy hunting ( I really think it's sick. I don't get it at all) I feel badly for all the shit the dentist is getting. I do think that it was the guides who were at fault. Also , knowing my family members and having to reconcile all the time that they are incredibly kind, loving, generous people who have this really disturbing and WRONG "hobby"...I just can't vilify him. I can vilify the act, but not him.
My FB is full of the memorials and funeral info for the two women in Lafayette. Other murders and violent crimes, as well.
I think that just because some do not discuss things on social media doesn't mean they are desensitized to the horror or don't care. Outrage and upset can be expressed in other ways....
I'm probably offending the hunters here but I have a really hard time seeing people that kill animals as a hobby/sport as "kind" or "loving".
I get it. And it's hard for me, too. I'm a bleeding heart liberal who used to be a vegetarian purely due to animal rights issues. But in my case, these people are kind and loving. I strongly disagree with what they do and they respect my opinion. It took me a while to figure out my feelings on this. It's a weird position to be in.

Dorothy Zbornak I was going to post something earlier about the lion, but got busy.
I've been horrified about big game/exotic hunting for years. I remember a doctor friend of my parents had an entire room filled with animals he killed in Africa. It always made me feel icky even when I was a kid.
I know we have so many things to be outraged about, and as upsetting as it is to hear about the lion being killed, I am much more upset about bigger things going on in our world.
@destinationunhown - it is a challenge to get a brush through my kids hair many days. She tells me not to, that her hair is beautiful the way it is. I try to tell her it is beautiful but we need to make it more neat looking. She's very persistent that it is already beautiful. Who am I to argue?
ETA with pictures of 'beautiful hair' according to her
mine is that I give the side eye to people who don't make any attempt to keep their children from looking like ragamuffins. Stained clothing, hair in their eyes, etc. I wouldn't leave the house like that so why would I have my kid looking like that? I mean, I get if you are out all day and they spill something or whatever but that's not what I'm referring to. I see people drop off kids at my gym daycare that don't have their hair brushed or anything.
Well.... I guess you would side eye me about 5 days a week....
Henry's hair is a mess pretty much every morning, we brush it but won't take the time to wet it. I fix Annabelle's hair every morning, but she takes great joy in taking her pig tail out. So by the time we walk into daycare they are a mess. Adorable little messes .
Well, I sometimes have to go to the store after daycare or whatever and her clothes are stained by then, hair is even more of a wreck. Or she is a pain in the ass to get dressed (or undressed) so it's not worth a fight all the time to get her into a different outfit. Her curly hair tends to looks un-cared for but it's not.

Look, they have clothes ON, are wearing shoes and underwear, and I brushed their teeth and wiped their faces at some point before stepping in to daycare. I get them dressed AFTER eating breakfast so we minimize food crap on clothing. I try. Just brushing their teeth most mornings is a win.
Hair and such is just....so above and beyond what I have the mental capacity for (I have to get myself ready in the morning too!!). But I go to work w wet hair (clipped up) and did before kids too so obviously I just DGAF about beauty standards. And I went to work today w a spot on my shirt from a kiss from Gabe. At least the 4 of us match.
This crap frustrates me. Stop judging stupid shit. Be concerned if you see kids downright actually dirty or obviously uncared for -- and then, be concerned, don't judge. Unkempt is not the same.
