A woman on a group I belong to on FB (think virtual rummage sale) was selling her surface RT tablet for $50. There was 1 small thing wrong with the kick stand but I ended up being the first to respond so I "bought it". She gave me her address and I met her at the front desk of her apartment complex and got the tablet/charger and gave her the money
She didn't wipe it completely back to factory settings but backed everything up.... When I got home I went online and got directions to restore to factory settings. It is restored and any of her pictures/files/info have been deleted. When I turned it back on I had to go through all the steps of setting it up like I did when I got a new laptop for work.
I told DH about this when he got home this morning and he said I was dumb for buying it and if I wanted a tablet I should have gone to bestbuy for example and bought 1. The tablet works perfectly well and it's back to factory settings but DH is still slightly freaked out. I said it's no different than buying a used computer/phone but he still thinks I'm in the wrong.
Please tell me there's nothing to freak out about.
maybe he meant you might have been able to buy a refurbished one at Best Buy and therefore it would come with some sort of warranty vs buying one from a person on the internet that may or may not work.
Exactly - he's freaking out that if she were to be dishonest and report it stollen it could be tracked back to us somehow. I kept arguing my point that it's NO different than buying something from ebay. I pretty much said fine don't use it.

Don't you have emails or FB messages arranging the purchase? I think you're ok. Even if the person who sold it to you stole it or knew it was stolen, I don't think you would be in trouble should it blow up. You would be out your $50 but that's about it. This is nothing to freak out about.

Totally man, like, she could go to the cops, and then they could trace it to you by .... uhm .... like, TRACING IT, and BAM! why do you have this stolen property anyway!! Here's a search warrant for your apartment, here's a warrant for your arrest .... what do you know? where is your stash? TELL US EVERYTHING !!!
I saw this on Kojack, but it was about an AM/FM transistor radio.

This is the only drawback I can see.
However, you only spent $50 for it. Not sure what it would have cost you at Best Buy, but it's probably worth the risk for paying that little.

He is being weird. People buy used electronics all the time. Directly from another person. I have two Mac book pro's, I purchased that way. No problems.

What? This is so weird (on your husband's part).
H sold his old Nook at our garage sale after doing factory re-set and it was no issue. I guess according to your H the man who bought it should worry about us reporting it stolen lol.
But in your case even if that did happen, you have proof she arranged the sale. Your H is being weird.
So I was talking with a good friend of mine and we're thinking of calling the radio station and having them do a "scam" on him. (devil)
That seems like a really bad idea. Especially if you are already in a disagreement about it.
He was talking with his dad a bit ago and mentioned to him and his dad was like yeah so big deal, same as buying something from the internet.
We're not in disagreement about it - I think it's more funny that he was freaking out about it. He saw that it was wiped and nothing on there except factory settings.
