I'm also willing to bet that at least some of the stares she gets are related to lacking cultural sensitivity with regard to her attire.
ETA - none of the outfits she's in are particularly revealing, but if she's wearing short shorts and tank tops in Turkey, she's going to attract attention.
Yes. This is just the definition of a "cool story bro." What? Why is this in a (formerly) legitimate news source??
Ah good,
I think she blogs for them.
But it's still absurd.
And as one of the first commenters points out, women who travel alone are harassed and stared at all the time, regardless of what they look like. She's making huge assumptions that it has to do with her looks, when really it is something every woman encounters.

But seriously. As a woman who is attractive, who does travel, and who has a platform, she should be embarrassed that she uses that platform to talk about herself rather than what she's seen and experienced as a female traveler throughout the world.
Surely she's learned more than, "I'm so pretty but I'm not trying to steal your husbands."

This is so stupid. I did tons of traveling alone when I was young, single, and pretty good-looking, and it never crossed my mind to bitch that people thought I was a hooker. Some people probably did, who knows.
Lol at the "Look at how much I don't care about your opinion of me - I don't care SO MUCH that I'll write an article about it telling people how much I DON'T CARE."

Yea, this so much. There are so many places in the world where any woman will be objectified if they're out alone. This article was an opportunity to bring light to a serious issue, but it just makes the author seem extremely self-centered.

Isn't Huff post just a news aggregate? They just collect articles and put them on their website, yes?

Well, I'm about 98% sure that the majority of these pictures were taken in Iceland which is not particularly modest nor does it have a shortage of home grown pretty girls.
I think I'm as pretty as her and I've travelled alone and no one has ever thought I was a prostitute or gold digger. No one ever even offered me a free pita

They're an aggregator, yes, but they also have bloggers. I wasn't clear on whether or not this was one they pulled from somewhere else or if she actually contributes material to them specifically.
It doesn't matter, though. I'm not side-eyeing HuffPo as much as I am this blogger.

Got it. I didn't know they have bloggers. I couldn't even read the article it was so bad.

Well, yeah. Leggings and tank tops are fine in many places. And I don't believe a woman deserves harassment regardless of what she wears, but when you are visiting another country, you do need to pay attention to cultural norms and style of dress. And, as you point out, there are beautiful women everywhere, so it's not like she's paving the pretty solo traveler path.
I've also never been offered a free pita. Or asked to give a blow job in Ghana. A guy DID hiss at me and say, "Hey Snow White! Can I lick you!?" when I was living in Dominica. I had frizzy hair, no makeup, certainly no selfie-stick, and no cute outfits to speak of, so I'm fairly certain this had little to do with my looks.

Yes, I also think people should respect cultural norms where they are traveling. I just don't think that, based on the pictures in the article, not respecting cultural norms was the problem here.
But the point is she's experiencing something EVERY women experiences at some point in every country on earth. She's using her platform to make it about her looks, when she could use it to talk about so many other important issues ranging from more serious topics like the way women are universally treated with disrespect to some of the incredible cultural experiences she's had.
"I know, I know, I sound like a huge b*tch for complaining about people starring at me when I travel alone when I really should "be glad that I'm lucky enough to look this way." But it's only because I really do work hard without using my looks in order to travel, so it offends me when people judge me because of them."
