My H was able to take a whole week off of work at the end of August, so we are expanding our vacation destination search a bit further. We are considering either Chicago or Nashville. I know some of you live near these places, and I'm sure others have been to one or both before, so please give me some recommendations as to where we should go! If you can, please include some activity recommendations for whichever place you prefer. Thanks!!
Chicago so we can have another GTG with the Chicago area ladies. Lincoln Park zoo is fun and free. But, I don't have other recs for in the city itself because we're lucky if we head up there once a year or so.
I say Nashville only because I might know people who might live NEAR there ...although, if you want me to be OBJECTIVE (Whatevs) then maybe Chicago since I hear the restaurants are amazing.
So activities (Sorry, I got sidetracked) for Nashville: I would say Country Music Hall of Fame, drink during the day on Broadway (lots of country music all day long), tour the Ryman Auditorium, visit Cheeckwood Gardens (gorg), Opryland Mall for discount shopping, and maybe the Frist Museum (Even if this person isn't in town the day you are there, they could mail you some free tickets). Also, you could take a day trip to Chattanooga. It's very pretty and there are lots of outdoorsy activities.
Chicago because the food is better, and there are more adult activities. I didn't really like Nashville that much and I have been there two or three times.
If you want any Chicago recommendations, let me know. There are all the traditional tourist things (the Bean, Millennium park, Buckingham Fountain, Sear's Tower, Hancock Building, Navy Pier & the Ferris Wheel) but that only takes up about a day or maybe two. My most favorite thing is the Museum of Science and Industry. I spend an entire day there when I go, and usually pay for the extras (the Coal Mine, Theatre, and Flight Simulators). There are tons of other non-traditional fun things to do too if you have more time to fill

Chicago! Though I may be biased. I imagine Nashville in August would be crazy hot, though Chicago could be the same. Supposedly August will be cooler this year though.
