You aren't alone! I rarely hit 10k during the week and usually am close on the weekend. The only time I hit 10k everyday was on vacation. So basically I need to be retired in order to be in the 10k A Day club. .
I literally walk laps around my living room while I take conference calls (I wfh). I can get like 2500 steps an hour and no one is the wiser. That plus walking errands where I can (also often on conference calls)
I think I might get a Fit Bit just because I am more motivated to move if I make a game out of it. And I am curious what I get on a normal day, I day I go hiking, a day I work, etc.
I think during the school year, I may get close or reach 10K on most work days. The days I go for long hikes, I might as well. But like today.....I pretty much have walked from my couch out to my back patio where I have sat on my ass for two hours lol. So yeah.
I think my biggest issue is cleaning up my diet, but moving more can't hurt. And in the winter when we're taking Rox for shorter walks and I'm not hiking as much (if at all), it will be more of a stretch for me to hit that but that would be a good thing.
Not to derail the thread but since you all (I'm assuming) have Fit Bits or some other sort of pedometer, does anyone have a Fit Bit that is not the bracelet? I'd prefer to not have that one, and I know there are ones you can clip on a bra or pocket, etc. Do you feel those still work well and are they a nuisance at all? FWIW, I don't really care to track my sleep or anything, mostly just steps per day.
@roxmonster - I had a zip until the screen cracked. I liked it fine but I find the bracelet more convenient. I do still use the zip when I dress up because it hooks into my bra rather than being part of the outfit. But the zip is just straight up pedometer and doesn't really do anything else.

I have the One and I love it. Very accurate and invisible clipped to my bra
RoxMonster I had the one. I would put it in my pocket and if my work clothes on a particular day had no pockets I'd wear it on my bra. Worked well for a year and a half, before it fell off my bra one day without me noticing. I just replaced it with a black bracelet one. Plus side is its easier to see how many steps I'm at than trying to discreetly reach into my bra.

Yeah that is true. On days I wear pants to work and can just clip it on a pocket or my waistband, it would be fine, but I probably shouldn't dig into my bra in front of my HS students lol. I guess I could check it in the RR at lunch or whatever, but that is a good point to consider about not getting the bracelet.

I started with the Zip, upgraded to the Flex, and now have the Charge. I may have a problem...
I liked the Zip fine, and kept it clipped to my bra. It was synced with my phone, so I didn't have to look directly at it to get my count. I upgraded to the Flex to track sleep, and got a Charge from DH for my birthday.
I have the one that clips on my bra. I can't have the bracelet because of work.
I get 10,000+ steps every day because: 1. I live in the city and never drive 2. I'm on my feet for work 3. I'm a runner 4. I take the stairs at work up to 7 flights up
I don't think I feel healthier because I've always been a runner/active so I don't think I've modified my behavior too much, but it is nice to have a visual of my activity to help continue to keep me on track.

DH gets bonuses and/or extra vacation time at work for getting 10,000 steps, so he's better at it than I am. We set up the daily competitions on the FitBit app. We're both really competitive, and the real-time notifications help us both get our steps.
We take a long walk together almost every morning or evening. It's our no-distraction, couple time, so it's something we both try to make happen regularly. He also walks around downtown on his lunch break.
We go by the average rather than the day. So, if we miss a day, we walk a little more on the weekend to catch up.
Ive been off my game since my injury, but i would always hit it before. I don't get much more than 1600 until after work and i just walk it out lol. Go for a walk, dance, and do whatever i need to do to get it.
I want to do 10 k every day in august and started a thread. Once you are in the rhythm, it becomes much easier

I work at a university. I park and walk .75 mile to and from work i skip the bus. I always go put on a walk on lunch if I am not working out on my lunch hour. Those things eaasily get me to 10k.

Work a retail job! Really though on days that I only work my office job, I try to get up to do things often. Fill water, set down documents, etc etc and stretch my legs often rather than putting it all off to do at once.
I've been wearing a pedometer since 2008, long before FitBit. I am on my 4th pedometer since then and when I want to lose weight, I aim for 15K a day. It actually is harder now with a kid. Hitting that many steps daily costs time and I don't have a lot of that in my day with crazy commutes and trying to make it home before DD falls asleep. I can't just run out and do some extra walking at work because we have to stick to a strict appointment schedule and my office is tiny.
If I don't make an effort, I will only hit 2 - 3K steps. That includes being with a toddler but we live in a small apartment so there isn't a lot of chasing going on here.
I have to haul myself to the gym for an hour and not leave until I get 8K in order to make 10K for the day. There is no other time efficient way to get the steps in. The elliptical gets me more steps in 1 hour than the treadmill, but I still do the treadmill sometimes just to change it up even though the treadmill makes me feel like death.
Since I go to work later, I also try to make an effort to haul DD around in her carrier on walks just to hit more steps. This is infinitely easier now since it is summer and I don't have to bundle her in 23 layers. We usually mall walk. On days she is in a good mood I can get to 5K. On days she is cranky, we might only get an extra 3k.
Also it is easier to hit more steps when I am staying at my apartment where we have a gym in the complex and 3 malls within 6 minutes. It is much harder when DD and I stay with my parents mid week (my mom babysits DD). They live in a more traditional suburban setting. Their neighborhood is really boring to walk though we do it and the nearest mall or large shopping complexes cost us about a 10 - 15 minute drive each way.
The best is when we are on vacation like this past weekend. We hit over 20K regularly because we like to walk a lot and explore after dusk and sometimes in the daytime too. Makes it easier to eat deliciously on vacation!

If you just want a simple pedometer, look at Omron on Amazon.
