Remind me. Did you have an ankle issue recently? I was thinking you had an Achilles' tendon issue. I haven't found anything that supports my injury very well. I have been searching for 2-3 years. I'm interested in what recomendations you get.

Yes, I have an achilles issue that is taking FOREVER to go away, which is why I'm so picky with the shoes.
I'm 3 years in. No relief in sight. My tennis shoes are horribly ugly. I can no longer wear wedges or heels. It's depressing. I've cried more times over my shoes than I should.
Gizeh's! I bought them a month or so ago and they're basically all I wear. I walked 5+ miles each day at Disney with no issues--super comfy. I had ankle surgery in Feb and they've been awesome.

I have a pair of Chacos and they're comfy but they just don't quite work for me. They hit my arch wrong and give me blisters. Keens are super comfortable, and I even wear them to hike in. Most days this summer I've worn Birkenstock Gizehs and they're wonderful. The squishy Nike flip flops are great too.
Does anyone have the Birkenstock Mayaris, or anything similar with a second strap or ankle strap?
I love my Mayaris! I don't find the Gizehs comfy - they hit the top of my foot at the wrong place. I have a pair I got about 5 years ago in Italy that is similar to the Mayari without the second strap, and they are my favorite shoe. Just got the Mayaris this summer and love them almost as much.
I'm intrigued by the Birks. They're probably best for just general kicking-around weekend wear, yes? I'm going camping soon and want a good trail sandal, too.
I have several issues with my feet (bunionectomy, plantar fasciitis, collapsing arches) and find them to be incredibly comfortable. I've walked numerous miles in them both in the city and on rough terrain and have never developed blisters or achy feet.

I just got Birkenstock Alyssa's and I adore them! I do better with a wedge, though. Not sure if that would work for Achilles issues.

toledo The CNX is essentially Keen's version of a 'minimal' or 'barefoot' shoe thus there is minimal support. If you really need something supportive, I'd look at Keen Newport, Venice, or Whisper. PP's have mentioned other great options ie Chaco, Birkenstock, Merrell, and Dansko.
Personally, I wear either the Birk Gizeh, Birk Mayari, or Mephisto Helen pretty much every summer day. These are all great everyday sandals, but aren't good for hiking or near water.

I have the Birkenstock Yara and it has ankle straps. It's my weekend running around sandal.
I like them so far but the sizing is pretty off. I ordered my regular size but it runs big. I can still wear it but it looks long. I just ordered another pair in a different colour and sized down.
I really love my Keen Whisper and Keen Newport H2. I hike with the Newport pair.

I bit the bullet and got Birks, but not the gizehs (NMS). And I really like them, and I can wear them teaching, when I'm on my feet for 6+ hours a day without any problems.

I bought those after looking for months and trying to make myself find a non Birk supportive shoe. Nope. Mayaris are where it's at. I have a pair of gizeh's but I find they make my foot clench a bit to keep them on, and I like the mayaris much better. Just make sure you're sized correctly. Toes shouldn't be rubbing or pressing on the edge.
I've been walking 10-12 miles a day in my Gizehs...they are amazing. Not hiking, just casual touristy walking. They are very supportive, and my feet never feel achy at the end of the day.
My Chacos are nice, but I find that when my feet swell (airplane), they get a little uncomfortable. I don't really feel like they support my foot as well as the Birkenstock foot bed - the Birks take the shape of your foot whereas the Chacos don't, so I feel like my Birkenstocks are a better shoe for me.
I've got the Gizeh, Mayari, and the Arizona styles. The widest style is Arizona, and they get more narrow from there (from the salesguy) - you can also just get a narrow instead of the regular if you have narrow feet.
Honestly, the real reason I love my Birks because they let my feet squish out.
