frank's room is overrun with stuffed animals, toys, and other crap. i feel like i can never keep it organized for very long. how do you manage all the crap? lots of baskets and shelves? get rid of stuff once a month? i really don't know if i can handle rotating lol!
i'm begrudgingly going to try and tackle this tomorrow :^). bonus points for pics!
David's birthday is in November and with Christmas in December, we do a clean out every October since he's about to have a huge influx of shit.
At about 4, I let him pick and choose what goes. I was SHOCKED at how easy that was, but I also had the luxury of the whole "making room for new toys" thing since we have two big events next to each other. I've also donated stuff by just going through his things and pulling out stuff I know he no longer plays with and he's never missed a thing.
David is 6 now, almost 7 and it's SO MUCH EASIER now. He has mostly books and Legos, that's it. All of those bulky toys are gone and I'm soooo fucking happy!
We have an organizer with bins in each of the boys' rooms, and I make a habit of doing a big toy/book purge every 6 months or so to avoid that overwhelming feeling. DS 1 is particularly bad about hoarding little scraps of paper and other random crap, so I also do a trash purge in his room fairly often and get rid of broken stuff during those visits.
I swear stuffed animals multiply when you're not looking. For some reason they really annoy me, because other than their favorite loveys, my kids don't really play with them. So I purge them a lot. I also try to be honest with myself about what they will and won't play with again.
I throw out a LOT of stuff.
We have one of those units with 9 squares-- some of the squares have cloth bins in them (for small toys), some are just used as shelves for books or bigger toys.
