H's work is throwing a black tie event 5 weeks after my due date and I need a dress. Thoughts on this one? In the reviews there's a few women 4-5 months pregnant wearing it, so obviously the midsection has some give and I think the ruching would be somewhat forgiving. With shape wear, of course.

Personally, I would rather wear that while pregnant vs PP because I would be afraid the ruching would accentuate my belly. I'd go for something more flowy for me, but my belly is always a problem area!

I think that dress is gorgeous, but I do agree with pp that it actually brings attention to your belly. I think black tie at 4 weeks pp is horrific. My H would be going without me, lol.
While that dress is gorgeous, I would have felt extremely self-conscious in it at 4-6 weeks postpartum, when I still have a belly. I would be more comfortable in something that better masks the belly.
I would do flows and make sure you can wear your nursing bras with it. I still can't wear underwire bras 5.5m pp for the clogs and pain they cause.
My clothes are way more limited by how they look on my chest than my waist.
And keep in mind if you have a c-section, shape wear may or may not be feasible. Some of my friends have had trouble with their incisions for a long time.

I'm usually back in underwire by 4 weeks PP. I'm lucky in that I've never had them cause clogs or pain. I'm limited by my chest too, though, as its big in proportion to the rest of my body.
A csection is highly unlikely as I've had two completely uncomplicated vaginal births before, but if I were to need a transfer from my home birth and a csection I doubt I'll be going to this event, lol
all good points, though. I really wish this thing were later. H's office is shutting down and they have several thousand dollars left in their "party throwing" account, so they are having this event in October in lieu of a Christmas party, since the office will be closed and everyone will have moved by Christmas.
I, too, would go with something more flow-y to hid a PP belly. Heck, even now at SIXTEEN MONTHS PP I would be worried that that dress would make me look six months pregnant. But I tend to carry a lot of weight in my tummy, and I know not everyone has that problem.
Do you plan on nursing? If so, and you think you'll need to pump during the event, that might not be the best dress for it. Also, I'm all about accentuating awesome PP boobs (though I know that at a military function, it's not like you can wear something super-tight, low-cut, or revealing, so accentuating boobs could be hard). ETA: I think undecidedowl's RTR dress is perfect :-)

Yes, I'll be BF. Depending on the baby's "schedule" at that point and who we have as a babysitter, I will either bring the baby in a ring sling and basically take the dress off to nurse somewhere, or just go for 2-3 hours for cocktails and dinner and then go home. I don't plan to pump while I'm there.
